Purdue University Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

okay, sounds good!

Your date of sending out the LOCI seems fine too. But I am just concerned once they started reading the RD applications and start accepting those, then they might neglect our EA deferred pile. I don’t know if my thinking is correct. Really no idea. My D25 really has not much to add except to give them her mid year grades, the extracurricular updates and how she came to like Purdue (which isn’t a repeat of the why Purdue essay in the original application).

D25 got admission to Purdue CS but no honors college. Does honors college give access to exclusive access to research, internship, counsellor and campus hire opportunities that are not available to others?
I can imagine better dorms for these kids. But wondering what other exclusive things are available that impact their learning and career opportunities.
Thanks in advance!

No there is not “exclusive” access, but research and honors advising is built into the honors college experience, and yes, there are some unique internship opportunities. Current Purdue students are able to apply to honors after freshman year if that is important to your student.

If your daughter is looking to replicate some of the honors experience as a freshman, I’d highly recommend looking at a Living Learning Community.

My son is CS in Honors college, I think the biggest benefit was the housing. They do tend to solict honors kids for research (because they need to do some), and my son started research his Freshman year, but I think if the student reaches out and solicits for research proactively its also available. I cant see any impact on internships - they have a fair and my son got offers there even as a freshman but parent connections are also generally the best option if available.

can students apply for honors after freshman year if they were not selected first?

Yes!

Is the purdue early start option available to all admits or is targeted to some of the admits?

Don’t know but my son just got that email

D25 (OOS) was rejected. She applied in the School of Agriculture. Her GPA and SAT scores were competetive for that school, and she had excellent and very relevant extracurriculars. Wondering if there is any advice on what angle should we take in the appeal letter. i feel like we already said it all in the application and without knowing why she waS rejected (which they wont tell), I am not sure what exactly to mention. Any thoughts?

My FYE admit has not received anything about it, but we were looking at it and it sounds like a good option but expensive (especially for out of state). probably better off taking a course or two that transfers from local community college over the summer instead.

Early Start is the one that is optional. Summer Start is/was the non-optional condition of admission for some students.

A lot of students use the early start to knock out required FYE courses that need to be completed at Purdue rather than gen eds. If combined with AP credits it can accelerate your completion of FYE after the fall semester in some cases.

I suggest digging into the Ag program of interest, the corresponding areas of research being done at Purdue and the related clubs and extracurriculars. You make your case for what you will contribute to the dept through your engagement and involvement in those things. You show them how these things will help you reach your goals. Connect the dots for them.

What would the basis of the appeal be? I don’t think a love letter or LOCI is going to work. Is there an option to appeal in the portal? If so, what guidance does that give?

Congratulations! Consider attending Boiler Gold Rush for international students (also referred to as iBGR). It’s an optional freshman orientation where students arrive before returning students to get to know other new students, the campus and the town. The international version starts a few days before it joins the larger BGR so international students can get an intro to campus before everyone else.

Stay on top of your paperwork for coming to the US with deadlines so nothing is delayed. And if you aren’t from a climate with cold weather, plan once you are in the US to buy cold weather clothing (Do not buy before arriving—not worth wasting the suitcase space.)

With “competitive scores” and “excellent and very relevant extracurriculars,” the most likely reasons for being declined are they took someone else with that same/similar profile, the “Why Purdue” wasn’t strong enough or the financial need was too great. The only one you can really do anything about among those is make a better case for why. So why not try if you want to go to Purdue?

Nice ! thanks for the tip

Highly recommend doing BGR for all incoming freshmen. It’s incredibly well run and a lovely way to get to meet people and learn the lay of the land.

D25 inclined towards signing up for early start (online). In person ruled out due to a busy summer plan.
It seems we must accept the offer, before requesting early start consideration through reply form.
Noob questions:-

  1. While still waiting for a couple more decisions, is it OK to accept the Purdue offer, if we have to withdraw it later if necessary? OK to let go of the deposit, concerned if this is ethically not right. Wouldn’t do it if this wasn’t a pre-req for requesting summer start.
  2. Do we have flexibility to chose a term/duration for summer courses? Like 4/6/8 weeks!
  3. Would the Purdue advisors be suggesting the best courses to pick for early start depending on the intended major? Or is that supposed to be self research?

PS: D25 is committed, at least in her mind, that she’s going to Purdue. It’s at the top among all her targets. Still waiting for a couple reaches, in case there’s a surprise, so not formally committed yet.
