Thank you so much. I definitely agree about the promptness in responses from Purdue.
Had a great experience communicating with business school counselor, who helped my D25 decide on her major choice.
When my S22 was considering IBE at Purdue, it was a new program with no career data yet. Just curious if the counselor was able to provide data on whether placement for IBE is on the product/project management side or traditional roles at financial companies.
I think the first IBE class graduates this spring. There may be internship information available from the department but I don’t think they’ll have first destination information until next Fall at the earliest.
They shared a list of all the different companies and roles that were offered to IBE students as interns. It was a pretty wide spread including several roles in Finance/Investment banking etc. my D25 is inclined towards finance, so having that option open with IBE was a huge plus for her.
Besides, when we were researching ourselves, we found that with IBE you may specialize in Financial Engineering Area, which covered a lot of subjects my D25 likes. In fact that constituted quite a bit of her “Why Major” essay response as well.
Thanks. I was just curious. Remembering meeting the coordinator of the program AJ in 2022 and him explaining that he designed this program as a compressed version of Engg+MBA to be done in 4 years. Nice to see it take shape and do well.
That is ok. Then if she does decide to accept another school’s offer, she should withdraw Purdue’s. The idea is to not have an enrollment deposit at two schools for any length of time.
Hello! Where did you find that data about a wave of decisions in Feb for defer? I have a senior at Purdue and my HS kid is deferred Biochem. I work in higher ed (advising and counseling…not Purdue) so I know the process which helps but man oh man I was bummed her 31ACT, 45 college credits, and 4.0 didn’t kick her over. Now I have my parent hat on for my last comment lol I’ve been digging around for IR numbers but as I can attest from my 20 years in the game, this sort of stuff gets buried.
The last two cycles Purdue released a wave of decisions in mid February. It’s anyones guess what they will do this year.
I have not seen any numbers in terms of how many are deferred and then accepted. All I can share is that when my D was a freshman in '18, there were hardly any deferrals from EA. It was either admit or reject, but over the subsequent years, it seems like every year they defer and then accept a higher number.
I was told that decisions would be released on Wednesdays and Fridays stating in February by admissions. I have no idea if they start looking at deferred applicants by major or by how qualified they were initially thought to be? Anyone have insight?
Struggling with LOCI - is it more about what else have you achieved since the application went in (awards, grades, ECs, etc) or more about why you want to go there? There was already a “why” essay in the app so trying to figure out what to do!
If I were you, I’d focus more on new updates + a line or two about your commitment to attend Purdue. As you said, Why Purdue is already answered in detail in the essay, so won’t rewrite it.
Thank you. This is the top choice and with so many competitive applicants, not sure if deferral was due to “being on the bubble with stats” or “hey we want you but we are not sure if you really want to attend so we are going to defer until you show more love”.
Just to add, my D25 is drafting her LOCI for Michigan Ross (it’s her dream school, but very high reach). She’s focusing on her senior year grades and how she’s knocked them out of the park, and some additional major relevant activities she’s engaged in since EA application was submitted. She’s also writing about her continued involvement in her previous ECs, and some new initiatives.
Finally, one line about her commitment to attend.
If Purdue is the top choice and you will definitely attend if accepted, clearly say so in the LOCI. This is the Letter of Continued Interest. Be sure they know of your interest!
And, not everyone will submit a LOCI. My daughter had a deferral from another school but had already been accepted by Purdue (which was her top choice) so she didn’t send in the LOCI, nor mid term report to that school. That will happen at Purdue as well for students who have gotten into their top choices.
