From what I can tell by reading this thread and after a quick search on Reddit, a status change usually means that a decision is coming soon. I would think that when waitlisted applicants receive updates, it’s most likely to be an acceptance, though other outcomes could be possible.

Just checked portal. Admitted Eng. No email. Portal just said application status decided.
