The same exact thing happens in my school and other people tell me with my good (but not great) statistics and ec’s that i can get into any school i want too. Its frustrating that everyone thinks like that, but who can blame them considering how true it is?

This thread is becoming a classic. It did have one of the most intellectual debate sessions of probably any thread on this website. damn that post #13! who votes that it should be stickied??

"Its frustrating that everyone thinks like that, but who can blame them considering how true it is? "

Lucia; Everyone where? WHAT is true where? Where do you go to school? How many are like “you”? (Assuming visually and culturally URM’s with SAT’s above 2K, GPA’s above 4.0.) I would SO love to find that place.

^that people assume that a minority is less qualified than ORM students (which is true the majority of the time) and can get into anywhere (not necessarily true). The “oh heres a poor deprived minority - let’s give him a boost” thinking just isn’t necessary for every single person because stereotypes just aren’t that true.

Wait! I’m not following! I think I am describing the URM’s getting a “boost”, and I don’t think there are “many”. Lucia, I think you are seeing them everywhere. Where IS that?

It’s not worth it. I have shared my thoughts about it but I am not about to go about quoting people and rubutting what people have to say. We’re all entitled to our own opinions and we’re not going to change anyone’s mind - nor impress anyone. I mean, we’re all applying to Yale. We’re pretty much all stellar people. Therefore, there is absolutely no reason to engage in this useless, petty debate over something that isn’t going to change, with or without this thread.

It is a Monday night during break. Let’s at least be nice to each other instead of attacking people, who we don’t know, through a supposedly intellectual website. We’re on here to help each other, remember?

While I acknowledge that the heyday of this thread has passed, I do not agree that discussion of affirmative action, an issue of significant societal implication, is petty or in vain. Nothing gets changed when no one talks about it. This thread garnered over 14,000 views.

@shrinkrap, I realized after I typed it that this thread has gotten so off topic that people could post even if they weren’t applying to Yale. I’m sorry you’re not stellar.

@silverturtle, I agree. Maybe a few million pages ago, this was an okay thread. Now people are attacking others for how they SPEAK. Really? Still, I stand by what I said. Talking about this on a CC thread is not going to change anything. If it does, I will definitely apologize.

If a debate is petty and vain when people repeat the same arguments over and over again, then we have ourselves a petty and vain debate here. Anyways, I doubt that a thread on college confidential can, all of a sudden, cause any significant change in society (I can already picture the objections to this, but let’s see what you come up with :P)

Hahaha, I’m a senior. Applying to bagillions of schools like all of you guys.
I wasn’t trying to be sarcastic, actually, which is surprising for me. I actually meant it. I’m sorry you’re not stellar. Like, that you don’t think you are. Okay, time to stop clarifying myself.
