grtskt89, thanks for the info…
and Halcykon, Congradulations!! Yale is my dream school. WOw…i’m jealous of you now…haha, just kidding

Quote(don’t know how to do the highlight one…):" . Also the email to a few of the schools are wrong - so go to the actual schools sites and look up the names."
Dang it, this is scary…I e-mailed them (followed QB directions) but never got anything back and the school’s regular e-mail thing always needs extra days to reply, so I guess I’m just going to call the RD schools tomorrow.
And I will post their reply here in case someone wants to know too

Kyle, I won’t engage in a battle of “cut and paste” as I believe it is against the rules.

Inasmuch as you claim “insider” knowledge of the Questbridge program, I would encourage you to check your information and your sources again. Except for throwing an occasional interception or fumbling the ball for the Patriots, I don’t think that Tom Brady would be of much help to explain the algorithm–although with his coach, you never know.

Oh, speaking about fumbles, you may want to check your interpretation of the 13% and 32% … those are not acceptance rates!

One I know for sure that wasn’t getting a rsvp was Williams email on QB lrodrigu@williams.edu.

Liliana Rodriguez Liliana.Rodriguez@williams.edu
used that email and got an answer right back.

I don’t think it is. That would defeat the point of the site. (Battles, perhaps, but I don’t think a civil debate is a “battle,” as you may.)

I don’t think I’ve ever claimed to have “insider” knowledge. What I’ve said is publicly known/stated. Tim Brady, for example, explained the process at a conference (and it was recorded, though I don’t know whether it was ever published).

My sources are double- and triple-checked, no worries.

It was a typo.

I’m well aware of that, too. I thought it was understood that 13% and 32% of those accepted are Asian, though I suppose I should have been more explicit.

Halcykon:

I think it’s a bit harsh to consider this a “■■■■■■■■” subject.

I never said it was.

I presented this in the stats.

I don’t understand what you’re contesting. Yes, I know what QB’s mission is, but QB has nothing to do with who gets matched and who doesn’t – that’s the colleges’ job. My point is: those who are not URMs have a lower chance of getting matched than URMs do. Their chances RD are much higher. This explains why they (whites and Asians) make up a much larger percentage RD than through the match.

I love how you pick apart our posts line by line. You may not know it, but it truly reflects a contentious, insecure personality. Just go take yoga, man. Chill out.
I realize I’m taking the Ad Hominem route but really. I’m tired.

I’m tired of all this. I’m really going to turn off my computer now. Hopefully.

How else would you know what I’m referring to? I know I dislike it when people address things I’ve said and I have no idea what they’re referring to. (The line-by-line practice is pretty common in online discussions.)

… how does that indicate anything about insecurity? Non sequitur much?

I’ll say it again – let’s try to remain civil, as part of the terms of service. I said nothing that was outright (or even implicitly) rude.

You can run it to see it operate fast, or you can step through it to see how inconsistent preferences are resolved by the algorithm. You can reset to try it again.

Usually, if I have been correctly quoted at all, I can find what I myself said, but I too appreciate, as an onlooker, when one participant quotes another exactly, and goes point by point about what he disagrees about and what he agrees about. There is no reason for any of us to take disagreement personally–we are mostly all either college-educated adults or high school students who aspire to attend college, and part of college life is intellectual, factual discussion. We can ask one another for facts and follow-up information without any onlooker taking that to be an insult or annoyance.

are any of you guys doing swarthmore? if so, did you request for a interview?

also, so far I have only heard from princeton, yale, amherst, willimas, rice, and columbia about QB RD, what other schools did you guys hear from?

Point by point is fine, but some points could be looked over. For example, I felt that the first point could be skipped, and that he simply rebutted it just because he could.

When someone includes inconsequential matters into the argument… it just detracts it and I begin to question the validity of the person who argues.
My emotions from another poster (just before him) must have transferred over too as well. And for that I apologize. KyleDavid, I also live in Southern CA; nice to meet you.

tokenadult: That’s really interesting – I didn’t know there was a mathematical name/solution to the algorithm that QB uses. Thanks for the links – I just might attempt to understand it. =p

Halcykon:

Well, it seemed as though you were claiming that I said QB is about the color of one’s skin (and I wasn’t, so I wanted to point that out). Sorry if it seemed as though I was being perverse.

What part of southern CA are you from? I’m in Kern County, where the weather, as you might know, is far from lovely (considering that it’s the High Desert).

No, I meant the one from xiggi, how he mentioned he didn’t want a “cut and paste” war.
Anyhow, it seems that everyone is misunderstanding me today. I must be too tired to be typing clearly :(

I’m in the LA County. And yes, it is definitely cold! I actually like cold weather, but it gets unbearable in the early morning when I have to wake up for school. arrrghh. I have to get used to this, it seems.

Turning to the pleasant subject of weather, we’re enjoying our snow here in Minnesota. My wife (originally from Taiwan, where it is never cold) and I had a good laugh some years ago on a trip to Los Angeles in November. The TV weather report announced “bone-chilling cold,” meaning daily lows in the low 40s Fahrenheit, which is a temperature possible even in Taiwan. We both thought that was hilarious.

Am I allowed to apply to schools like Yale, Princeton, and Columbia through QuestBridge for RD even though I didn’t rank these schools? Or am I only allowed to apply using QuestBridge to the schools I did rank originally? I e-mailed QB but I haven’t gotten a response…Also are a person’s chances greater for acceptance if they apply using QB or without using QB for RD?
