Hi guys, i’ve got a question about the fee waiver letter since internationals can’t file the CSS/Profile form.

So I need to get my school to produce this fee waiver letter right? And what exactly should the content include?
ie. is it like
“Sch endorses this applicant’s request for fee waiver” and that’s it? Any format to follow? Do i have to state any financial info? like Annual family income or something? If so, is it stated directly in the letter or as an addendum?

And since i’m on a roll…
I am planning to use Common App. For school reports, transcripts, etc., i still need to send paper copy via snail mail, right? There is no way to attach them electronically, is there? And for said reports/transcripts, i just need to photocopy them and send school officials to notarise them and then I can mail them myself? Or do ALL documents like GCE cert copies have to be sent by the school directly?

Thanks for answering my queries! Struggling to see the light

I dont think you can send the waiver request electronically.

Mine says that I was on full scholarship based on merit and need and that a fee waiver will allow me to further pursue my studies in your prestigious instutions … etc etc. … u get what i mean?

As for GCE reports etc, i think its better to send your attested certificates with your transcript sent by the school… most preferably with your secondary school report or mid year report. That would avoid any confusion. Get a bunch attested copies and tell your counsellor to include those in their envelope. Sending it with your Secondary School report would also allow you to track the receipt of the certificates because they wouldnt acknowledge it if u send it independently (not under the checklist).

Unfortunately, I have left my school for 2 yrs (served in the army) (and we don’t really have guidance counsellors per se) and anyway, it’s very rare for people in my school system to go to US unis, so they wouldn’t know what a fee waiver is…

Any non-scholar who know what a fee waiver should entail? haha

i’m in exactly the same boat as you. singaporean as well. well i emailed the admissions staff and they typically want a letter detailing why you should be excused from paying. things like annual family income, number of dependents, special circumstances to be considered etc. then get your civics tutor, if you were from jc as i was, to do the letter with official school letterhead and stuff. it’s not that hard really.

so glad to see two more singaporeans on this forum!

Death Cab, I gather that you’re from poly? Since you said it’s very rare for people in your school system to go to US unis. Hmm, there’s another guy from poly on this forum who’s also applying to US unis. You might wish to contact him and discuss/share info. Search for Zimmerman’s posts. Or you can PM me for his email address. Anyway, getting the fee waival letter shouldn’t be too hard (though I regretted not using that back then since everyone else was paying for the app fees, except the PRC scholars I guess). Just get some school official to write a letter detailing the stuff quaskx mentioned (or you might want to check with separate college officials what they want exactly) and it should be fine. Other international students here don’t seem to have alot of problems with that.

yup, woebegone, i’m from poly. i only know one other person from poly who went to us, and that was on a father-mother scholarship…
thanks for the heads up on Zimmerman. Lord knows i could do with some advise with someone in the same boat… shall pm him… does he still post?
