**So I am planning on transferring(as a transfer student from a California CC!) to UAF fall 2014 for engineering. To acquire the UAF Nanook Scholarship, will I need to take the ACT and/or the SAT along with having a 4.0 GPA?? I already have the 4.0 gpa and find it strange that I will need to take the ACT/SAT as a transfer student. I never took either of them in highschool and do not know how it works. Also, if I lose my 4.0 gpa in the next coming semesters, will the rest of the merit scholarships overlap with each other or can I only apply for one each? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

If you have two years of CC, merit aid will typically be based on your CC record alone. However, you will have to contact the university to get the answer for sure.

Sorry, I was not aware there was a difference between full ride and full tuition. I do not have money for room/board and the rest. I have tried finding info regarding whether these scholarships only apply for In-state students but may be available to anyone attending the college. I tried contacting the university but have gotten no replies yet.

Ok…for Alaska, that would be a substantial amount. I’m guessing that you’d need to estimate about $20k per year for room, board, books, fees, personal expenses, and travel costs. Plus, you probably would need a new winter wardrobe and footwear.

What are your sources mom2collegekids? Perhaps it would be 20k if i did not dorm on campus?
$7,200 Annual Cost for Room and board and meals + ~$400 for transportation a year (if im living on campus) + $2k for personal expenses (I could only think of this as clothes, a gym membership, and food I dont get through the schools meal plan) + $2k for books (if i dont torrent them or find another way to get them for free)
(double room & 19 meals/week on campus)

I like to think myself as “not your average college student” when it comes to expenditures. I am resourceful and only buy what I need. I do not have a credit card and avoid debt at all costs.
*This doesnt factor in tuition assuming I get the “FUll tuition schlarship”.

I’m an engineering student. After I fly there I don’t plan on leaving my dorm much ;] so I think of it as a one way trip. Tickets start at around 650$ but could even be lower if I fly at an unfavorable time of year. That is straight from LAX to Fairbanks.

The UAF link the OP provided lumps tuition and fees together. I don’t see a breakdown. At my kids public fees are about $650 a semester. I think it’s UMass where tuition is very low and fees are much higher than tuition. A full tuition scholarship is most likey tuition only and won’t cover the fees. It would be a good idea to find out how much the fees are, emailing if you have to.

Tuition fees range from 580 to 800 a credit depending what tier of classes you are taking. Since I am a transfer student, it will be on the upper end of tuition. Fees are not included but they are provided on the link I posted.
[Financial Aid Office | Tuition and fees](Tuition & fees | Financial Aid Office | Financial Aid)

OP: I would call (not email) the financial aid office and ask about transfer scholarships. Don’t be so sure that you will get the full-tuition package as a transfer.

Looks like from your link, UAF costs the following:

Non-resident: $32547
WUE: $22888

UCLA costs:

Resident: $29295 to $32415
Non-resident: $52173 to $55293

This is before financial aid or scholarships. If you are a California resident, UCLA may have you significant financial aid – have you checked the net price calculator?

RedEye, tuition and fees are separate charges. I see in your link where the fees are named but I don’t see anything that says how much they are. The amount for tuition and fees are lumped together in the tables. I’ve seen posts here at CC where students have gotten a full tuition scholarship(maybe a state one?) to UMass but at UMass tuition is about $1800 and fees are over $10,000. I doubt that’s the case at UAF but in planning this you should find out how much the fees actually are and if the full tuition scholarship would cover fees as well as tuition.

That would only be for 4 year universities and not CCs, correct? I am new to the applying to college process. Perhaps you could summarize all fees/factors I should consider when looking into a school Instate versus outofstate, or just link me to a website that covers all the basics? Thanks.
