Question about Monologue selection

My son, high school junior, is in the process of selecting his monolgues for his college auditions, and is finding the Shakespeare selection tough.

His class last year ( he goes to a small artsy school) performed Cymbeline, in which he played Cloten, the rotten son of Cymbeline’s second wife.

I’m suggesting that he do a Cloten monologue, since it is around his age and he had so much fun playing a bad guy ( since he’s really a sweetie) and he knows the play backwards and forwards.

What do you think of an unsympathetic character for one of the monologues? Too risky, ie, might rub off on my son? Or a good idea as it’s an unusual character to choose?

Any impressions would be helpful

Yes, and yes! It’s an unusual choice, which is guaranteed to attract attention. There’s nothing risky about taking on a difficult character if he can do it well.
