Question for Dean J - lag time on SIS site?

My daughter’s teacher recommendation was sent last week, yet it appears in the “to do” list. I am hoping this is just lag time as your office processes an enormous amount of paperwork coming in.
Should she do anything at this point? - Her application was sent for EA consideration.
Thanks for your guidance.

Lets kill two birds with one stone…Dean J - my S had to assign a primary and secondary teacher for recs He requested only his primary teacher send the rec to UVA since they made it pretty clear at the info session that was sufficient. He checked the Common App today and it says both were invited. Now he worries that UVA will be annoyed he sent 2!

Is this something he should address with admissions? Thanks.

Just a thought here…Dean J has just entered the busiest time of year, Reading Season. She graciously answers questions here as she can, but her primary means of reaching out to people is through her blog [Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process](http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/) . You could post your question there, call admissions and speak with the ‘Dean of the Day’ and ask your question, or trust answers you get from cc members who have been through this before but have NO direct connection to the university…always a slight risk ask it’s second hand information.

To answer your questions…

momneedsguidance - Yes, there is a lag time with the vast amount of e-documents and snail mail they are trying to feed into the system right now. Anything that is sent snail mail has to be tagged and scanned then ‘married’ with the correct application so that it is all electronic. If you are missing something after everything is processed they will let you know. Certainly watch your ‘to-do list’, but don’t agonize yet. If you read previous blog posts last January I believe Dean J wrote about this. Ah yes. I searched her blog for “to do list” and the first hit was the following : http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2011/01/to-worry-or-not-to-worry.html</a> . (Hint, it says things you should not worry about…your status on SIS. )

dwhite - No, an extra LOR isn’t going to irritate anyone. I speak from experience here. My son ended up having more then the required due to similar circumstances. He is a happy first year now. A large number of LOR’s might irritate someone, but one extra isn’t going to raise a concern. There are certainly things that require a phone call to clarify and correct something. IMHO this isn’t one of them.

Best of luck to both of your students!!

Thank you blueiguana! That is what I thought…but perhaps more importantly, what I wanted to hear :)

^great response and just wanted to chime in for extra feelings of security :). My son’s “to do” list on SIS was there for over a month at least (transcript from cc was most of the hold up, but also one summer program that didn’t provide a transcript…had to email admissions and explain to get that “to-do” taken off). Just let your kids know not to worry too much. And my son sent a 2nd rec too via snail mail. He’s a first-year too, so it looks like 2 recs isn’t annoying. Good luck!!!

:)

The timing is also addressed in the application instructions.
