Question for ucsd history majors

Anyone completing one of the new major themes? I am extremely interested in war, revolution, and social change, for me it seems truly ideal – and I would love to know how much interest there is on campus and if classes are readily available?

Another question, can you take clasees from the other fields of emphasis if they apply to, say social change? one more, lol… is a senior thesis or capstone project required for graduation?

Thanks.

what is this theme thing? I’ve never heard of it…is it basically like a focus area except it’s not by regions (i.e. Europe) but by…themes, I guess? What are the themes? What are the new themes?

Sorry, a bit lost here. I’m accepted for the Scholars Day thingy, but haven’t done much research into UCSD…

you’re right, themes are similar to a focus area. instead of offering the regular european, american, latam, etc. courses, ucsd recently decided to offer some rather interesting themes of focus for history majors. so far, it looks like there are only 3 “history of gender and sexuality; history of race, ethnicity, and migration; and war, revolution, and social change”. each looks interesting, but the social change theme is exactly what i wanted to focus on in studying history.

nice that you were offered scholars day, congrats on your likely admission!
…would be my luck that ucsd rejects me, lol. here’s a link to check out ucsd’s history dept http://historyweb.ucsd.edu/pages/undergraduate/prospective/prospec_major.html
