<p>Still catching up on this thread, but a comment on people suggesting you go up & back in one day and OP’s response that may not be enough for the in laws.</p>
<p>If you are dealing with someone who is unreasonable, for whom “it” (whatever it is that time) is never enough, for whom nothing is ever enough, that is when you draw boundaries, You do the right thing and they have to live with it. If nothing is ever enough why keep trying to match their wishes. Do the right thing, honor the father and mother, but do it on your own terms.</p>
