Question

When you stretch both your arms out and make a cracking noise between your backs, does that have any chance of stunting your growth? I’m kind of curious to know.

Thanks.

How can I grow from 5’5 up to at least 5’6 at the age of 18? I’m kind of short for a male. =(

Bump…

Why are you so concerned about your height?

Cause I thought of utilizing the gymnasium. But I noticed that I’d rather see my growth within 3 years from now before getting physically stronger.

Now will making cracking noises through my backbone or top shoulders stunt my growth or not?

haha what?

no, cracking your back does not stunt your growth.

also, there’s no study that shows cracking your joints causes arthritis; complete midwives tale.

Physical stress stimulates bone growth. Just saying…

So would I have any chances to grow up to 5’6 or 5’7 from age 18-21? I just think that 5’5 is a little bit below average for certain males.

If crack joints in back or shoulders do not stunt growth, then what risks do they bring?

Males keep growing til their 21. You should be 5’6 by 21. You don’t have to worry about it though :p

And I talked with a chiropractor once about cracking your back. Your back bone is strong enough to not get arthritis or anything.

It happens couple of times when I do push-ups though. I just don’t know if it’s normal.

Yes, you might even grow more than that. I don’t know about cracking joints. Why don’t you google it?

It might be happening because you are unused to those motions? IDK…are you sure your form is correct?

If it happens when you’re doing push-ups, it’s not the traditional idea of cracking your bones. You can typically only “crack” a bone once every 15 minutes at max.

What is probably happening is that something is popping out of it’s normal place. Either your body is just not used to this or you’re doing them incorrectly.

My hips sometimes ‘pop’ when I walk, but my hips aren’t cracking (they also do this when I’m doing several types of ab strength work outs).

In my case, it’s from doing my sport since I was four. Actually just googled it, and it has a name (oh how I love google):
[Snapping hip syndrome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Snapping hip syndrome - Wikipedia) although I very rarely have pain.

I doubt your issue is related- I’d be willing to put money down and claim you’re just doing pushups incorrectly if you’re just starting out now.

It has nothing to do with stunting growth, everyones back cracks. You’re being silly.

Also, I’d stop being concerned about your height and just accept it. Not much of a difference between 5 “5” and 5 “6”. If you are almost 18 you probably won’t get much taller, so stop worry about silly things like cracking your back.

It’s all in your genes.

Like I said, but males can grow until they’re 21. So maybe likely 1/2+ inch for me?

Some of my friends are 5’7 so that’s a worry. Because according to the statistics, average of US women is 5’4. Thus, I’m just an inch taller.

No one on here can say if you’re going to grow. I am female and had a 1 1/2 inch growth spurt when I was 19. I have plenty of male friends who haven’t grown since their freshmen year of high school. I have one friend who was 5’3" when he started dating his now-wife (he was 17) and grew 6 inches after marrying her (which he did at 23).

Go to a doctor if you really want to know whether or not you can grow taller.

start playing basketball or volleyball. or just start jumping a lot. hehe or get someone to hold both your legs and pull em for like 2 minutes everyday :D

There is no way to make yourself taller. If you want to grow, make sure you have a healthy diet and that you exercise, get enough sleep, and generally take care of yourself. If it is in your genetics for you to grow taller, you will. At your age you may still grow a bit but you may as well start getting used to being on the shorter side, because while men do grow sometimes into their early 20’s very likely nothing profound is going to happen. There is nothing you can do to make yourself grow besides being healthy so your body is in a position to do what it is naturally meant to do.

i’ve always cracked my back and it hasn’t stunted my growth. well, if it has i’d rather not know.

Generally speaking, in adolescents whose epiphyseal plates haven’t yet sealed, growth is actually stimulated by working out, running, lifting weights, etc. The notion that lifting stunts growth is an old wives tale.

In your case, you might squeeze out another inch but you’d still be 5’6". There is no profound difference between 5’5" and 5’6". Yeah that’s pretty short but it still leaves the majority of the female population in your height range. Not a huge deal.

I don’t understand why internet people think things like this. Most people are completely done growing by the time they’re 15. I can’t think of a single person that I know who grew significantly after the age of 15. The exceptions are extremely late bloomers and guys over 6’5 who don’t know how to stop growing.
