Questions about transferring

Hi all,
So I'm a VA native at a top LAC in the northeast and strongly considering transferring. Pretty sure W&M and UVA are my top choices.

First off, I haven't been able to make any of the visitation days for transfer students. I'll be visiting sometime over spring break -

Also, is there anyone here who can talk about the math dept.? Specifically research. I'm looking to get into that as soon as possible. Are there any ways I could do supervised research during the school year? Does anyone know how well students place into graduate school? I'm looking into statistics and operations research, and I saw a decent offering of those courses on the catalog.

With transfer housing, is the trick to apply as soon as applications are available? How far off-campus are most apartments? How much will these typically run per month?

Greek life - I'm not sure if I'll be transferring in as a sophomore or a junior, but I'm thinking about joining a frat. Can juniors rush or only frosh/sophs? Do all fraternities have houses? How big are they typically?

Thanks. Looking forward to applying/visiting soon.

We'd encourage you to contact the Math Department directly to see what if any research is being conducted in your area of interest. Faculty are happy to correspond with prospective students.

For transfer housing it is best to apply as soon as the application becomes available as housing is awarded, for the most part, on a first-come, first-serve basis.

We'll leave it to students to respond to the more student-life oriented questions.
