Questions to Ask After a Scholarship Interview?

Hi everyone -

I have an interview for a full-ride scholarship to Loyola New Orleans on Friday! I know typically at the end of interviews you’re supposed to ask questions to show you’re interested, but I have no idea what kinds of questions I should be asking. I don’t know who my interviewer is, but I assume it’s an admissions counselor.

Anyone have any ideas or advice on what to ask?

Ask any questions you have about the school that cannot be answered from looking at the website. The questions can be about anything…academics, campus life, areas of interest etc.

Hey I’m in that boat as well and I’m pretty lost about it too.

What about:
What will this school, and in particular the scholarship program, do to be advantageous to me when it comes to finding internships and jobs in my senior year?
What about my application made the admissions committee think I would be a good fit for the school’s culture?
If there’s a current student scholarship holder on the panel, you could ask “In what ways do you think the school could be improved and how have you seen the administration handle suggestions for improvement in the past?”
Could you give me an idea of how you think the ideal candidate would make use of their scholarship money here at Loyola New Orleans and in the future?
I’m interested in ____ program offered here, could you tell me more about it and how I could get involved if I enroll?/ I’m concerned about ____ here, could you tell me more about why some students may think this is the case and to what extent you think this true about LNO?

I think scholarship interviews create a unique situation for both the interviewers and the interviewees. At any other college interview, it’s mostly going to be you trying to convince them to take you. They already know that you want them. Here, rather, both parties clearly show interest (they have enough interest to throw money at you) and it’s more balanced. I think the best thing to do in this kind of situation would be to show interest, but not too much interest (if it’s honest). You want to show that you are glad to be considered for the merit scholarship and you know it is an honor, but it may also be important to let whomever is interviewing you that you are in fact, a very talented person, and you want to make sure they can prove their school is worth it by showing concerns about anything you have concerns about and also ensuring that the school’s fit is good. They ask questions to you so you can prove yourself, you should ask questions too so that they can prove themselves.

P.S. sorry if my sample Q’s were wordy or grammatically incorrect. It’s just the gist.
