Hey, this is really quick. Basically, my AP Lang teacher grades WAAY harder than the test (I’ve heard from people that pretty consistently got 6’s on their essays and C’s in his class, and a 4 or 5 on the exam), and with my essays, the only thing that he actually takes off for is tone. I have a tendency to get snarky/sassy when I’m writing essays. That’s just what my voice as a writer is like. Does anyone know how this could affect my score on the AP Lang exam in May? Like, will then take points off for tone? Thanks so much! :D

From reading the scoring rubics from the last several years, I don’t tone as being a criterion upon which points are deducted. That said, I can’t think of many instances in an AP test, or any academic expository writing environment, where “snarky/sassy” is appropriate.
