Some friends of mine don’t use Facebook. One not all, the other deactivates during the school year. Both are great students; one has a 4.0. It seems to do more harm than good. Now CC…that’s pretty distracting as well ;)

yeah, I deactivited FB 2 years ago. One of the most productive decisions of my life. If your friends rely on FB to communicate, then get new friends.

Pros for quitting Facebook
You don’t have to deal with stalking or bullying on Facebook
You’ll no longer have the urge to update your status
You won’t waste as much time
You’ll get in the habit of interacting with people in real life.
You’ll be more productive.

Once you do it, you realize that you don’t really need it. However, facebook is certainly a plus if you have long distance friends. I have friends in Asia, North America, and Europe so I require facebook to keep in touch with them. But I use it solely for communication. So I go on about one or twice every couple days or week.

But before I quit I was a mess. Quitting is one of the most productive things I’ve done it allowed me to return to facebook without getting all crazy about it again.

I don’t think Facebook has ever distracted me from anything. I don’t actually really know what people do on there that they find so interesting.

Oh, I, however, have never used FB chat. Maybe this is why FB doesn’t distract me? It doesn’t interest me.

I’ve always considered the possibility of deleting Facebook just to see how it would change my academic performance… but I’ve never been able to bring myself to actually do it. I told myself that if I chose to, I would only deactivate it and never actually permanently delete it in case I realized that it didn’t really change much. That article makes me wonder, though Maybe I’ll try it out for the first semester of this year to see if I get off to a better start than last year.

well, @bagelsbagels, it’s kinda rampant in elementary school too. I was considering getting a facebook (since I never had one before) but this thread scares me.
