Haha, the title is pretty much self- explanatory. Do you guys think it is possible to raise 500 points by the March test date? If yes, how??? Please help! I’m in a quagmire right now and I seriously would like some help!!!

Practice tests… it’s self-explanatory it’s how much time you are willing to put in.

500 out of 2400 points… definitely possible.
500 out of 1600… good luck!

Depends on how bad you did on your first one. Hopefully I improved my score 500 points.

Thank you for all of your help, and yes I’m trying to improve 500 points on the 2400 SAT. By the way, can you guys please help and chance me?

Well, I’m gonna be a junior in August. I so far have a very crappy SAT score. I have ~1550. I am the top 5 in all of my classes. Freshmen and sophomore year, I had a 4.0 GPA, weighted it should be ~4.17. I have 5 clubs that I am in and I am an officer in one of them.

What do you think my chances are to get a 2000 my the 2008 March test date? What should I do?

Also what are my chances getting into:
University of Southern California

My cousin went to USC but don’t know if that’s considered as alumni or not.

legacy is only parents i believe.

are u doing bad on the CR, M, or W?
if you are in state for the UC’s then instead of berkeley, ucla could be a better fit since their scores are a little bit lower yet the school is still really good. IN STATE though

I am planning on taking the test for the first time on the March test date. So do you think it’s possible to raise 500 points by that time? As you can see from above, my scores are really crappy. I’m a straight A student but I just suck at standardized tests. Any way I can raise 500 points?

i def think you can raise your score 500, thats not a problem. if your aimin for USC and Berkeley, you should try for atleast a 2150. plus, its easier to raise points if your a low scorer, ■■■■■, your basically like me. gonna b a junior, 1500, n i wanna go to USC too haha

really? u have 1500? u’re in cali, where? we might actually know each other, haha. so what’s your goal? and are you trying to raise 500 also?

Listen, you can definitely raise your score by 500 pts. if you put the right effort into it.

Briefly … you need to look at what sorts of questions in which areas of the test you are getting incorrect and figure out how to correct those specific areas. This is most efficiently done with a personal SAT tutor – but it can be done. I know someone who went from 1000 to 1210 (out of 1600) with some targeted tutoring.

I did a 400 pt leap no problem–when counting the PSAT as equivalent to SAT–all I did was learn some new words (went over barrons critical reading high frequency word list)…and whatever math I hadn’t learned (specifically stats, most what you need to know is in the kaplan 2400 book)…

I suggest barrons SAT books–they are harsh, but it works-- and any official SAT tests you can get to practice with. Take at least two weeks to study before the test though, I only did one and I know it would have been more effective with more time…

thank you!

haha yeah i live in cali too, live in bakersfield but im livin near LA for the summer. more specifically, Irvine haha, what about you?

oh, and trying to raise atleast 650 points ■■■■■, plannin to take first SAT this october, r you takin any classes or gettin a tutor?

i live in diamond bar, and i am taking classes. I’m starting next monday. Have you ever heard of Elite? I’m gonna be taking Elite’s summer program for 8 weeks. I’m not sure if I’m getting a tutor yet.

No More Advice?!?!?! =(

It Would Be Nice If I Got Some More Advice?!!?!?! =d

Easiest to raise is Verbal section, in my opinion.
Read hard to read books (Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice) and read slowly and UNDERLINE and make sure you understand everything and you’re reading comprehension will soar.
Learn vocab and your sentence completions will soar.
Easy to improve 100-200 points.

Writing is hard.
Grammar, as long as you practice, you should score in the 600-650.
But, grammar is the easiest to forget, I was at 65 on the PSAT and I got 520 on the model test (after about 7 months), so be sure to prep for it. Not hard to improve 100-200 points.

Math depends a lot on natural skill, since there are A LOT of different topics in the math portion and a lot of it takes logic and the hard math problems are hard to prepare for. But after mastering the basics in SAT Math, you should still be able to improve 100 points.

That’s 500 points right there.

Actually, I raised my score nearly 300 points from PSAT to SAT. I’d suggest choosing which sections you want to improve.

I had a math tutor because the math just wasn’t sticking…The only thing I’d say is get the Official book and take the tests…and READ THE EXPLANATIONS. I swear, you learn so much from the explanations and you learn the pattern. The patterns repeat over and over, but if you can catch the pattern, you got it.

Writing is easy because you can memorize grammar. Get as many SAT grammar books as you can…and work. I raised my writing score 200 from my PSAT though I suck at grammar. You have to be willing to do the work! Unlike math, you see the same situations in grammar over and over. I had a really sucky PSAT score and well, I started working. I ended up with a higher score than friends who took numerous courses…It’s possible. You just have to work and it will come!

Tutors and classes are nice but you can’t always depend on others to everything for you.
