Why Your Pets Should Never Ride Loose in the Car

Absolutely. A good friend accidentally drove off the paved road, and the car rolled down the embankment. Their dog was loose in the car, and the friend described that it was absolutely surreal to see the dog rolling in the air like it was in a spaceship or something! They were also very lucky that the relatively large dog did not hurt itself or anyone in the car!

For folks interested in the matter, here’s an USDA article about cutting boards. https://www.fsis.usda.gov/food-safety/safe-food-handling-and-preparation/food-safety-basics/cutting-boards

We have bamboo because it’s light plus plastic ones. I try to be very mindful when using them to minimize microplastics. Good to know about sanitizing periodically with bleach & washing with hot soapy water.

Years ago my in-laws were moving overseas for a couple of years. They rented their lovely west cost home to a finance guy and his family. He similarly thought that keeping money in the market was more financially rewarding than buying a home.

In my area, renting a decent-sized apartment or townhouse would cost more than my current payments even with the crazy property taxes we pay. That doesn’t take into account maintenance costs, but rents are super high around here.

Memba them?

The former secretary revealed that she helped North shred mountains of documents related to Iran-Contra after the Justice Department caught wind of the weapons scheme.

Hall also told investigators that in 1986, when North was fired over the scandal, she smuggled Iran-Contra documents that had not yet been shredded or altered out of the Old Executive Office Building (now the Eisenhower Executive Office Building) — hiding them in her boots and inside the back of her skirt.

I was just talking about this with some people at work when one of my colleagues said ā€œwho is that?ā€ and when i told her she replied ā€œoh, I was born in 1995, I don’t remember that.ā€ Uh. Yeah, you wouldn’t. Thanks for making me feel old.

Wow, she looks great in that 2nd picture as she’s about to testify. Those 80’s fashions really were cool. I think my son should be Fawn Hall for Halloween. His hair is almost there. He will need documents. And boots.

I used to have a waist like that.

Oh wow, if you had only bleached your hair like her, you 2 would have been twins. Those ā€˜80s belts were so great. Also loving that wall stenciling!

That stenciling came with the house. It’s funny, because I like contemporary design, not country. This starter house was perfect for us, though, because it was small (1,100 SF), but we could fit the piano in the living room.

So sad. The wreck happened on the highway near our house. :frowning:

Not sure where to put this so I’m going to put it here. Hopefully it doesn’t have to get moved to the political form. But this is so patently unfair. The CDC is not allowing accommodations for disabilities, including those who were traumatized by the recent shooting there.

That’s a good article. I think it’s taken my sister about 10 years to get to that point. I go through a shadow of that experience with my son, thinking about his lost potential. But you have to choose to focus on the good stuff.

Lovely article… though it made me a bit teary. I admire the way the author has found a way to have joyful memories.

When I was in my last semester of social work school (spring 2019), I visited a disgusting adult home with a client in connection with my fieldwork in a day program for adults with serious mental illness which the NYS Office of Mental Health called PROS programs (a stupid acronym). I wrote a paper about the possibilities of using PROS to transition clients from these homes to supportive housing. As far as I know, there is still a huge shortage of supportive housing apartments in the city. I hope someone continues to keep track of these people to assure that they are cared for properly. And I certainly hope that there’s some oversight to make sure that the elderly people who chose to stay in the adult homes are properly housed with good food, heat, cooling in the summer and worthwhile activities.

My Reporting Led to a Landmark Lawsuit. The Case Took 22 Years.
A class-action lawsuit, spurred by an investigative series in The Times, came to a close, having helped thousands of mentally ill residents of adult homes.
