You should be angry. You must not be bitter. Bitterness is like cancer. It eats upon the host. It doesn’t do anything to the object of its displeasure. So use that anger. You write it. You paint it. You dance it. You march it. You vote it. You do everything about it. You talk it. Never stop talking it.

Not sure where to put this….

End of an era - not a place I would go weekly or anything but for certain times it was the place to go….not even sure where else to go to get fabric….I’m not a Hobby Lobby person and don’t intend to start!

I’m really happy that the Joanne’s near me has been spared. I don’t sew often, but it’s nice to have a nearby fabric store for the times I do. Plus, they have great sales on crafts for my GD.

Isn’t the article saying they will all close??

Ahhhhhh, noooooo! I just saw Joanne’s & assumed it was the article I just read the other day saying that most stores in our state are closing & mine was spared. How did they go from that to shutting them all so quickly?

That’s how I read it. Some closing on
Wednesday.
Gift cards not accepted after Feb. 28.

Yup. Initially, the plan was to keep some stores open. Now all will be closed. :disappointed:

I don’t sew or do crafts but I’m sad to see JoAnn’s go. When my kids were growing up I shopped there a lot for things I needed for their school projects, scouts, holidays etc.

I dont sew either but would buy some of their home decor or outdoor fabric to recover chair seats, wicker ottomans etc

My daughter said she remembers getting some dorm decor or supplies to make dorm decor there.

I am sad as I literally just decided to start doing some sewing again. I have some fabric being delivered tomorrow.

I used JoAnn’s A LOT for making my own home decor (stuffing, fabrics, curtains, pillows, etc.). I will definitely miss our stores. Then again, my inherited 60-year-old sewing machine died last year, and I didn’t want to start all over learning a new machine. Very sad on both accounts.

I used to sew A LOT, especially in my twenties when I wasn’t wearing ā€œsuit-yā€ type clothes. Then I switched into the Corporate wardrobe, so I didn’t sew for years. Now that I’m retired and I want to sew again, I’m finding that neither my fingers nor my eyes will cooperate. I think my sewing days are behind me, even for the occasional hem.

JoAnn has been a staple for me for fabric and yarn since I was a kid. I stopped sewing clothes after college but continued to buy fabric for home decorating (drapery, pillows, toppers, duvets, etc.) and renewed crocheting in retirement. I’m sorry to see it go, but Hobby Lobby opened a brand new store last year closer to us than the JoAnn location, so no one in my stitching group is too upset.

I didn’t go often to JoAnne but when I needed to, it had exactly what I wanted. Buttons, ribbons, thread, remnants, craft glue, small angel food cake pan, straw basket, pillow inserts, etc. No real sewing! Some stuff really had to be seen in person to match colors or sizes.

I stopped shopping at Hobby Lobby years ago for reasons that don’t belong in this forum. Hopefully Michael’s will expand their notions offerings at our local store but at least they’re good for crafting supplies. I can try out a local store which calls itself ā€œYour Sewing Specialistā€ which looks promising.

JoAnne’s was also a good source for some summer decor/gardening items. Or other holiday decor items. I would get most of my mossy hanging baskets (the coconut filler) inserts from there at great prices. Christmas lights. Inexpensive ornaments.

My favorite Joann’s memory: D was in the cast of ā€œBye,Bye Birdieā€ in middle school. The director wanted everyone to wear very bright colors (poodle skirts, pedal pushers, etc) and bright color scarves. I was wondering where to buy an inexpensive scarf when I went into Joann’s and saw several bolts of chiffon fabric in bright colors! One half a yard was about $2.00 and it worked perfectly! I shared this with the director and the other parents and our local Joann’s had a run on chiffon.

I shopped at Joanne’s for material and notions to make so many Halloween costumes, costumes for plays, and Christmas gifts over the years. There is no equivalent near me (I don’t shop at Hobby Libby). I’m really sad.
