If the holes aren’t already there, I would prefer no handles at all on top to give the visual effect of taller cabinets and less clutter. You probably won’t be getting up there often, so the upper handles are superfluous IMO. Otherwise, I’d keep the same style, just smaller. I wouldn’t mix.

(I always prefer the clean look of no handles at all on any cabinets, but it’s a personal preference, of course.)

I thought that as well but as said, jokes are already there!

I didn’t see anything about the holes in @Jolynne_Smyth’s post, just the two pics, so assuming the two-hole handles are temporarily attached via the one bottom hole only while she decides?

(I would fill any holes and refinish, but that’s just me. I’m brave that way. Ha!)

Oh I just assumed there were holes!

Thank you so much for the knob/handle feedback! Yes the handles are on the cabinets with putty so are all temporary (all options in play!). I realize the pictures don’t give a perfect comparison (fewer lower cabinet handles on the ‘knob pic’).

@ChoatieMom - my absolute first choice was a clean look with no handles on top! Hub would not hear of it so I’m trying to find the least distracting option, lol.

@abasket - I also do not generally like to mix styles, shapes, finishes, etc. - but when I saw (hub’s choice) of handles that took up one third of those baby cabinets on top - I just thought - something here doesn’t work. I’m not a designer but could feel the scale was off somehow and it was just too much.

Thanks again!

I agree with those who like the smaller handles on the top. They are much more proportional.

If H insists on handles for top & bottom, I’d go with small.

Hi all! I’ve been away for a very long time, but I recognize the names of so many old friends here! I’m incredulous! A couple of things - how do I get the latest comments to show up first? Is there an actual app? I’m not a Luddite, but it’s hard to figure out in this site. And I have no idea how I come up, but I’m gourmetmom.

I remember GourmetMom but your name is showing as @Momisalwaysright !

If there is an app I have never used it.

Welcome back!

Hi @gourmetmom! Welcome back! I recognise that name.
You come up as Momisalwaright.

If there is an app, I don’t use it. I just go to my always open tab on my laptop, never on my phone.
The only way I know to get to the latest comments is to have opened and ‘read’ the entire thread; then the new unread posts will be where it takes you when you go back to that thread.

I remember you too! Welcome back! Lots of us are still here, though our kids are grown & launched.

When we purchased cabinet handles last year I remember seeing some really small ones that matched the longer ones. Like maybe 2 inches long. We got a mix of sizes for cabinets and drawers of different sizes. I’m thinking 3 inch, 4 inch, 6 inch. But there were larger and smaller lengths. I am not there now, but we shopped mostly online (knobs and more (or something like that), Amazon, and in store at Menards)

Amazing day yesterday. I played clarinet, and very well I might add, 6th grade through high school. I could not participate in college because my curriculum was just too hard and time consuming. Anyway, it has been 55 years since I put it away. It was a top of the line instrument that my wonderful parents got for me Christmas of 9th grade. That was a real stretch for them and I’ll never forget it, of course. So, I found a man who could repair and recondition it. He was one of the most interesting persons I have ever met!

My friend N was with me and she played the oboe and her own Dad was a high school band/orchestra director his whole career. He still plays clarinet at 100 years old. He was in the Navy Band in WWII. We had a lot to talk about.

This man is brilliant, several stories about what a prodigy he was in several areas. Three college majors…electrical engineering, music composition and set design something or other.

So, I told this man that if it could be salvaged, I want to donate it to a child whose family could not afford one. He had said it would cost $400 to fix it…gulp…but since I am going to donate, he will do it for me at no charge. The charity that he works with called Hungry for Music will give him $50 and we’re all good. Wow. I’m so pleased in so many ways!
