random question (concerned)

So I have a random question about something that just happened to me. My girlfriend is applying to PhD programs and she asked one of the POI’s if her GRE scores were good enough. He sent back a nice reply back saying basically she strongly recommends she retakes them.

Okay, that’s all fine and stuff but she forwards the email to me to read over to see what I think. I stupidly hit reply without looking and reply back to the professor shes interested in working with.

Nothing offensive was said but the email I sent him was definitely not professional.

My gf was like “this is what this dude said, what do you think?”
I said something like “you and i are in the same boat, we have to retake to up our scores a bit. it sucks but thats grad school.”

So Question: Did I just screw over my gf into getting into this program? Will they think she’s not worth admissions because of my stupidity?

ps i tried to retract and delete right away but who knows if i got it in time

It depends on the professor, some might find it awkwardly funny and some would be offended by the un-professionalism let alone being addressed as “dude”… I would say just let it pass, there is nothing you can say to alleviate the situation so it can only go worse from here…

unsend, unsend. i wouldn’t worry, this wasn’t a professional encounter in the first place. it was an email asking for advice. it might be nice to send a follow up email apologizing.

Yeesh. The prof might not appreciate your GF forwarding on her e-mails to non-professors.

Apologize nicely and just move on. And tell your GF not to forward any “important” e-mails to you.
