"Great thread Zmom!! i was missing some of the Vigil posters!
I am focused on working out at least five days this week. 3 down more to go! Watching what I’m eating and TRYING to only have wine on weekends. Why am I doing this??? "

Great for you! Did you hear the good news about red wine and its anti-aging properties? That’s very important, you know.
I’m working on getting myself back in shape, as well. I’d stopped lifting weights when my dad was ill and didn’t get back to it after he died. So that’s my goal.

Speaking of missing posters, has anyone seen CGM lately?

Alwaysamom, when will you be holding a class on smiley faces?

I just read the wine article this a.m. I always knew I was just drinking for my health! I lifted weights yesterday and this morning. Hope I don’t crash and burn! I think I need some virtual goodies…where are you Owlice!!!

Need to head to the grocery store this morning and then I get to play with my new scrapbooking cutter!!! The weather has been cold and rainy for way too long!

I haven’t read past the OP yet, but here is a source of discounted red cocktail dresses:

I wish I would have done the same last year when DD graduated. I don’t think most people would have thought I needed to lose weight, but I have a very round face and any extra pounds makes my face look so porky in pictures.

After seeing several pics of myself, I made a serious effort to do the Dr. Gott no sugar no flour diet and it really helped a lot. I have also resumed racewalking, one of the many things that seemed to slide my daughter’s senior year. I feel so much healthier this year.

My wine consumption, however, has increased since DD has returned from college. No real problems, I am just more mellow after dinner…

I’d never heard of Jon and Kate plus 8 (never watch TV), so I googled them and found their website. The kids are incredibly cute. I read Kate’s story, though, and learned that the sextuplets were a result of an incredibly irresponsible fertility doctor. A responsible doctor monitors follicle development during ovarian stimulation and does not give the injection that completes the cycle if too many eggs are developing. Running the risk of a high multiple pregancy for a couple who will not consider reduction is bad enough, but this woman was actually hospitalized for ovarian hyperstimulation.

Crazy, yes, but count me in!

A week or so ago I checked to see when was the last time she posted on CC, and it was in April; I know she had a lot going on with her daughter graduating, so she may have had to change her priorities for a bit. I’d been kind of surprised when she wasn’t showing up in some of the political threads.

OK… get ready for an odd story - after all the Jon & Kate posts last night, I had a dream with them in it. Someone planned a 25th anniversary party for me and H (which won’t be until next March), and Kate hosted it at her house. They even managed to get people to come we haven’t seen in 20 years. So in the dream, the next day I went over to their house to offer some help with the kids, so she’d get a break, and there really wasn’t anything for me to do cuz she was so organized. Of course, when I finally left her house, I got lost coming home (can you say inferiority complex here).

My good news to report is that I had a wonderful massage this morning; she helped loosen up and get rid of some of the knots I’ve had in my neck since being sick. Now if I only had some of those little cupcakes you all are talking about to munch on.

worknprogress…so what could you eat??? I really see an immediate change when I cut out bread/pasta but I can’t do it in the long run. I LOVE bread…more so than sweets!

My wine consumption usually increases in the summer with all the entertaining at the lake and around the bonfire. Since we entertain more during the summer I cook more and eat more too. Gotta focus on those pictures and wearing something cute for all the fun senior get togethers.

The first couple of days were horrible. I was in a checkout line and I wanted to just grab some candy bars. After a week or so, I found I really wasn’t as hungry. I also had a one a day Coke addiction which I overcame.

As to what we eat…lots of rice (I now substitute brown rice for most of my pasta dishes), vegetables, fruits, beans, tofu, tempeh, etc. and some fish. I have loved cooking while DD was at school. DH likes any ethnic dish I try so it is a pleasure to cook for him.

Since I did this my blood pressure is down, I lost 13 pounds, and I really do feel better. I now eat pasta, but not as often, and when I have bread, it is not an entire loaf of sourdough!

Not a class but this page might help!

It’s funny you should mention CGM because I was thinking of her last night and wondering where she’s been. It’s not like her to be away for so long. I hope everything is all right.

Heading to the grocery store…guess I’ll pick up some brown rice, chicken and veggies…sigh. :)

worknprogress, I am also addicted to Coke, and not the diet stuff! I am down to one 12-oz can a day. It sounds as if, like me, you are a sugar addict:

I feel much better when I cut out sugar and white foods. But I find it hard to resist Coke’s siren call.

To quote my daughter, sucks for you!

My husband often drinks one, and sometimes two, two-liter bottles of coke a day.

Switch to Coke Zero. Tastes the same as regular coke.

Better yet: switch to water. But man, I’m in Zooserdad’s shoes as well. need my caffeine fix!

LOL! You are really trying, worknprogress, and I know you’ll get there! After that / at the end of the quote, you need to add the word “quote”. So, at the end of a quote, you’d have [ /quote ] …without the spaces inside the brackets.

Thanks for the smiley link, alwaysamom!  :)

I was a Diet Pepsi person (caffeine for half the day and then caffeine-free). After I broke my knee skiing last year and had some bone density issues, I was told to eliminate all cola products. I wasn’t going to do it (I don’t like coffee), but I researched it and it is pretty clear that the combination of the cola and the phosphorus causes bone density problems in WOMEN. This does not seem to be a problem for men. I could still drink Mountain Dew (disgusting) and Fresca (I like it), iced tea, etc, but NO colas. I obeyed that, and now just have one occasionally.

The big thing around work today is the change in pricing in the vending machines. Since we were founded in the dot-com days, we have had subsidized snack and drink machines where all choices were 25 cents. The new corporate services manage sent an email out this morning announcing that we are going to market pricing in the vending machines, with prices ranging from 65 cents for “crackers” to $1.25 for juice and Gatorade. This has been wildly unpopular and has generated a sizable thread of snarky email messages. Within four hours of the announcement of the new prices being in effect Friday, the drink machines are empty and the snack machines nearly so. I am enjoying it immensely.

Thanks for the information, MOWC. Maybe this will motivate me to give the stuff up. Learning about how awful high-fructose corn syrup is should have done the job already, though.

zoosermom, Not so long ago I was drinking a 2-liter bottle a day.

Bullet, Coke Zero does NOT taste the same as regular Coke.

I have had some success substituting iced tea.
