UVA is ranked as one of the best public schools in the country. What makes it so good? What are its best academic programs?

Languages are ranked very highly, English, History, Psychology, Econ/Comm, and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is ranked 37th in the country. Essentially, if UVA has a program for it, it’s a good one.

It’s drop-dead gorgeous, with a great balance between superior academics and college fun. It’s kind of a feng shui of University settings, IMHO.

What’s the weather like in Winter?

my comments on rankings:

- rankings don’t really mean anything unless you’re going into graduate studies in that area. the rankings are based on graduate department standards. now, our comm school is #1 and that is a specific ugrad ranking so that one might mean something. but most others don’t mean what you think they might mean. just know that uva is a great school with great academics for whatever you might plan or change your major to. once you hit a certain good threshold with schools, you need to go visit to see if it is a good fit for you.
