Rate My Highschool Plan (indepth) FLVS Related

Here's a little bit about me.

My name is Steven, 15 and a half, I am a sophomore, as well as a wrestler/fighter.

I was a gifted student from 1st until 4th grade, when I got my first D out of no where. From there on out I went down to A's and B's, then middle school came around and it dropped to B's and C's. 8th grade I was struggling to stay in the high C range. High school came around and I became good friends with C's and D's.

10th grade now, and in the first quarter I managed to get 2 F's and 2 D's. Now, my parents are majorly strict about my grades, especially my dad and when report card time comes around I always end up grounded. This time I took it into my own hands to punish myself, with a slap to the face realizing that 2 F's and 2 D's are what I need to come to my senses that school is important and I need to start doing good.

So its about time for the second quarter to end and here is how I managed to pull up my grades in about a 4 week time span (considering I didn't get my report card into 4 weeks into the quarter)

Hist: 79
Biology: 74
Eng: 71
Geo: 58 (absolutely hopeless with math no matter what)

Every other grade except Geo was pulled up by about 10-20 points.

Now, Im probably going to fail GEO and retake it on FLVS during the second semester while im doing regular algebra 2 in regular school.

So far I have taken

Drivers Ed
Psychology
Algebra 1 (first half retake)
--Currently taking--
Life Management Skills (this or another p.e class, idr)
Web Design 1

I'm doing, have done, the FLVS classes to raise my GPA because I need it.

Now, here is a little bit more information before I carry on into my high school plan.

I have had an amazing girlfriend for the past 2 and a half years. We are inseparable. She has a scholarship to learn to teach ballroom dancing (shes 4th in the world for her division). I plan on marrying her, raising a family.. etc. (yeah yeah we are too young to even think about that w.e). We are two strong Christians and have been through a lot. She is a big factor in a lot of my life and has pulled me out of a big hole.

Now. Here is my plan.

Finish out 10th grade, progressively trying to pull my grades up. Retaking Geometry over the rest of this semester while doing Algebra 2. Finishing my two FLVS classes. Also, planning on joining the weightlifting team as soon as the wrestling season is over in about a month.

Ok so summer time comes. I will probably be looking for a job if my Ebay Consignment business does not pick up off the ground within the next month. I work my job.. etc. Enjoy my summer as much as I can.

Now 11th grade comes. I turn 16 on June 14th. I get my license right before the school season starts. Now, instead of going to public school I am thinking of taking all the required classes on Florida Virtual School. I stay home, take care of my classes at home, get them out of the way. That way I still have more time for a job, wrestling/fighting w.e and I can focus more without having to worry about social problems. I would try to work on a standard pace, but work a little bit faster, maybe in the middle between a standard pace and accelerated pace. Finish off 11th grade early, and get it out of the way.

Now that 11th grade will be over, my senior year go back into public school so I can enjoy the fun of being a senior, senior classes, etc. Since I won't have to take a math class and a lot of my oncore classes will be unnescesary due to the fact I have done 5 FLVS classes so far, along with all other classes I did throughout highschool, I imagine being able to reasonably coast through my senior year, being able to leave school early, going to my job etc.

I have interest in being a young entrepeneur, if I get lucky, MMA tournament fighter, or something to do with physical activity/health, like maybe a personal trainer or running a fighting gym.

Any criticism, comments, suggestions, anything. PLEASE, leave it all. I need to get my life figured out and fast.

I can only question what happened in Geometry.

Otherwise, I don’t have any imminent criticisms. You got hit in the face with the grades, now you’re making a plan to do something about it.

Much better than a lot of the other threads like this on CC.

and

made me lol.

Okay, first of all, either your IQ test for gifted was a fluke, or your brain stopped developing like it should have. Nothing you can really do about it now. Just make sure you’re taking in enough calories and have your macros all straightened out if you’re wrestling and lifting daily.

Girlfriend sounds like a keeper. Hang onto her for as long as you can. Dancers are flexible as hell and know how move to the rhythm nom sayin? Also, once you do get married, the years of sexual tension will explode out of her (literally). Needless to say, it will be epic. However, since you are only 15.5 years of age, your relationship is statistically doomed to fail. Fight for the prize though, tie the knot as early as you can.

Okay, that’s a bad idea. FLVS is a joke. When you’re taking a few BS classes to raise dat dere GPA, it’s a good thing. When you’re taking it for your education, it’s a bad thing. You will fall behind even farther than you already are. Also, if you have social problems, the solution is to socialize, not to isolate yourself. That will only make your social problems worse.

Statistically, you will not make it as an MMA fighter. Additionally, it doesn’t sound like you need any more head trauma. Being an entrepreneur is going out of style (thank the govt…both dems and repubs) but it’s still possible. But good luck finding a bank to give you a loan without a degree. You need one. Give me your GPA/SAT/ACT for more advice.

“Okay, first of all, either your IQ test for gifted was a fluke, or your brain stopped developing like it should have”

-No, just developed a “popular” position in school and kinda just stopped caring about my grades and more about friends. Im just too lazy to apply myself.

“Also, if you have social problems, the solution is to socialize, not to isolate yourself. That will only make your social problems worse.”

-Social problems, as in, too much socializing. I socialize way to much when I should be doing work.

“Okay, that’s a bad idea. FLVS is a joke. When you’re taking a few BS classes to raise dat dere GPA, it’s a good thing. When you’re taking it for your education, it’s a bad thing. You will fall behind even farther than you already are.”

-How so?

“loan without a degree. You need one. Give me your GPA/SAT/ACT for more advice.”

-I forgot to mention I was going to look into a technical school, also GPA is about 2.3-2.5

Nothing wrong with that. Still, many of us don’t apply ourselves and get much higher than 2.3-2.5.

That’s not a problem at all. Keep up the good work bro. Don’t give it up.

FLVS (at least for me and everyone I know) does not embed information in your brain like real school. Sure, you’ll remember the information by the time you take the exam. However, after your extra-long summer, you won’t even remember what you’ve forgotten. I could go into psychological reasons why it isn’t as effective, but just know that it’s not.

I understand what happened. The same thing happened to a freind of mine. In middle school he made 98+ in all of his classes ( he was in honors and our middle school was the best in out state) but, soon he started playing baseball and socializing more and, he got so caught in his new life that he stopped caring about grades. Around the end of 9th grade, he started to kinda care about grades but, he got so far behind that all he could do to keep a 3.0 was to cheat.

That’s my advice, cheat!

-Don’t listen to funstuff, Our educational system looks more at GPA/Test scores more than the quality of the education. Do anything to keep that GPA even if it means giving your sweaty, hairy, and fat English teacher a sloppy yet firm handjob.

I never said I was against this. I just don’t think your GPA should be your primary reason for doing so.

For doing what?, Giving your English teacher a Handjob?

I have a similar situation as OP. My grades tanked in 10th grade (I got a 39 in AP World History, even though I got a 4 on the AP test) and I knew there was no way to salvage them except by going on FLVS full-time. I work a lot harder on my schoolwork, but I’ve managed to squeeze out A’s and B’s.
