Haha, thank you
But I have a lot of things against me now, like a) International student needing financial aid and b) not-so consistent grades because the Advanced Level system in my country works very differently and to score A grades is like near impossible (maybe 5-6 kids a year nationwide), especially for subjects in the Arts.

Iām praying for the same miracle to happen to me, in that case :)

:) Where are you from?

Graduation on MAY 19TH. Yays!
Yeah, after the AP exams, weāre done. We keep coming for a few days, but they donāt teach anything, we just watch movies. I donāt think Iām doing anything in particular over the summer, except maybe teaching a friend of mine how to ride a bike. :)

pekingneseāyeah, when they censored my āp i s s edā a few posts back I was like āwoah, itās magicā. O.o

Colombo, Sri Lanka
And you?

^ Oh thatās really cool
Iām originally from Malaysia, but I moved to the states in 05 (Virginia specifically) and then moved to Texas a year later =/

Ooh, not so far away from SL
Well, I hope we meet each other some day, either at UChicago or Barnard

Good luck!

Heh, all you kidz, with your⦠youth =)

I graduated almost two years ago, sadly. I never would have thought so, but I miss school and being in a learning enviroment. My Junior-High self would topple off if she heard me say this, of course.

WindSongLibra - Actually, your essay sounds excellent, like the kind of thing they would like (but what do I know, reallyā¦). Are you a US citizen living abroad who needs aid?

pekingnese09 - Ha! I wanted to write that too but I never did manage to put it together. I did enjoy the ***??? looks people gave me when I asked them if they thought they lived the question and if so, which question was it.

inasummertown - belated happy birthday!

mp153 - good luck with the surgery if you decide to have it!

Man, still no emails from Barnard⦠=(

Me too! I graduated in August 2007 and since then Iāve been interning at local NGOs that focus on human rights and public policy and volunteering. So Iām turning 21 this year, and if I donāt go to college this fall Iāll be far, far behind other kids in my age-group
Wait, can I even say ākidsā? Lol.

About the essay, thank you
I think my best essay was my Columbia personal statement, but boo hoo, Iām not even entertaining the idea of getting accepted there. But since Barnard is my first-choice, I really hope I get in. And no, Iām a South Asian living in Sri Lanka, needing financial aid.

I hope we all get in!

@foreverpetals, yeah the UCs definitely cut acceptances. I was amazed by some of the people that werenāt accepted. :(

@inasummertown happy late birthday! hugs

My graduationās June 12th (unless CA cuts off the last week of school for budget reasons, oh joy, yeah I suppose I donāt even know when Iām graduating).

And as far as summer goes, three of my friends and I are going to London & Paris for two weeks in July! We planned the whole things ourselves & got jobs and everything. Itās gonna be EPIC! (Seriously, with excitement from that & college I feel like Iām constantly high on caffeine. Especially this week. Iām like: MUST. CHECK. MAIL!!! Itās painful not having any idea when it could show up!)

idk what school to pick UCLA, UCSD, or Barnard? that is to say I actually get into Barnard, highly doubt that.

hanauma, being someone who has gotten into two and hopes to get into the third, Iād pick Barnard in a second, but theyāre of course totally different so it really depends on what you want in a school. :)

WindSongLibra - Heh, I know what you mean. Iām turning 20 this year and am deathly afraid of having to postpone college for another year (in case I get bad FA everywhere, like I did in UC Davisā¦). I suppose some silverlining is that Iāll be able to save yet more money for college, even if it costs me my happiness and sanity.

By the way, I kinda prefer Barnard over Columbia as well. Is that weird? In the highly unlikely case Iāll be accepted to Columbia (yeah, right), Iāll have a real problem⦠Though, thatāll really be ātroubles of the richā, as we say⦠What will you do if youāre accepted to both? I mean, Columbia is Ivy but it seems like kind of a vicious schoolā¦

pepperimps - Awesome summer plans! How did you manage to find work???

Thatās my issue too, financial aid. I think right now my demonstrated need is holding me down because most of the colleges I applied to are not need-blind for Int. students. And Iām well aware that Barnard and Columbia both fit into the above category. And my grades arenāt all that stellar. So Iām prepared to be rejected from both! I know negativity isnāt good, but oh well
I just want to get in SO badly because of their human rights program. In fact, that was what my Common Application essay was about.

This summer, my plans are mixed; I may be doing some interning on Capitol Hill or taking classes in Switzerland, depending on how money is.
(Financial crisis for the lose.) Or just chilling in Nova Scotia, which is fine by me; love it!

Fin. aid is my deciding factor too. Hereās hoping I get some. :

simply lily - I got my job last May, so it was definitely easier then. And Iām working for my optometrist, which also made it easier b/c she already knew me. :)

And I have the Barnard/Columbia thing going on as well, but if I get into both (haha), Iād definitely prefer Barnard.

Also, Iām hoping you east coast girls get your decisions today!!! I just want to know they exist!

decisions should arrive today?? oh god iām going to have a panic attack in the middle of french class last period. oh god oh god. dont know if iāll be able to handle the rejection⦠:(

For me, fin. aid. is EVERYTHING. My parents wonāt let me go to a private school if it costs above $35k. Which it most likely willā¦

Iām International and havenāt received anythingā¦for some reason I think weāll be getting them on the 27th or the 28th.

I just ran home from schools and there was nothing in the mail. I live in PA.

Iām probably rejected. :(

Girls, girls! I see no reason to believe Barnard mailed acceptances on Monday or Tuesday. From what I can tell in reading their website, the āacceptedā page is open on Friday. I would take that to mean they, like Bryn Mawr, are mailing their decisions on Thursday. Only 24 more hours +. By Monday itāll all be over - except for the Ivies.
As a mother of a Barnad hopeful, my advice is to spend the next day in blissful ignorance.
