and are you from marin county or is that your last name?

lol, its my middle name. My major is history and hopefully I will be able to add on another later one.

that’s great! so… you’re going then?! i’m sure you could add something as well… as long as you keep your grades up… you’ll be fine! they make it seem like it’s so hard to double or switch there… but it’s not really… except arch… which is of course, but i want to double in! lamee haha but yaa congrats!!

Im not sure if I am going or not, but it is one of my top options for sure. ![]()
I am so excited.

My son got in!!! Architecture. Just found out 10 minutes ago…

woooooo!!! congrats to your son collegestuff!!

wow, oh my god…i must not have gotten in.
:[

mine still says no decision made.
ahhhhh i’m freaking!!!

however, i just calculated collegestuff’s son’s EI, and his is 4440 according to the cal poly formula, and mine is 4120 (i hope i did that right…) that’s not a huge difference… :S

(p.s. congrats to your son!!! that’s so exciting!)

AHHHH this is driving me CRAZY!!! i feel like i still have a chance, but i am still without a decision…

how do you calculate your EI and what is that even?

yaa what is EI?!

oh and I haven’t heard back either but it seems that no journalism or business majors have posted so…

Eligibility Index Formula:

SAT: GPA x 800 + SAT score
ACT: GPA x 200 + ACT score

i am assuming that they just use the reading and math segments though, so that affects the formula a bit…

well… mines 4334 with SATand 816 with ACT… if i calculated that right…

Thanks jackht27.

I am checking my email every 5 minutes.

ok cool, yeah mines around 4200

jacknt27, hwats your major?

mine is like 4102 and 763…

So, I’m guessing that they are still sending it out as of 8:00PM Pacific time.

Oh, CollegeStuff, congratulation to your son!

Oh jackht27, is that weighted gpa or unweighted?

oh i’m an architecture major :]

i just plugged in my csu/uc gpa that i put on my cal poly app.

I probably won’t end up going to Cal Poly SLO, I live 10 mins from San Luis Obispo so, it is too close to home for me. But I’ll have to wait and see about other schools. Congratulations to everyone!

I too live close enough -less than an hour away-, that it’s also “too close” for me and not my first choice (if accepted). I have neighbors that once worked there and was told by an inside source at CalPoly you need to re-do your gpa with only the a-g classes for 10th, 11th and half of 12th grade adding a point each (or half for the 12th grade) for honors, again only a-g courses, then do the sat or act thing. But that is only to get a number for overall campus eligibility. Once past that stage, the impacted departments recalculate an EI using only SOME of your a-g courses that are deemed most important to that department. -I have no info on what those would be. Then do the sat/act thing again. You get a bonus if you have paid work experience related to the major, and bonus for decent community service. Then they work this new list down from the top until they’ve accepted what they feel is necessary to get the desired number of enrolled for that major. The more ‘top scores’ on the list the more enrollments actually offered as a high percentage of the top score types get accepted elsewhere and fewer of them enroll. Weird, but makes sense and they seem to feel it’s a fair ‘numbers only’ evaluation.

The curve ball this year the the economy. College tuition funds invested in a tough stock market, closing of student loan lending, declining home values, shutdown of home equity lending, rising cost of living, job loss and increased tuition rates has caused many families to choose less expensive schools. Many schools (especially high $$ privates) are expected to accept fewer initially and work their waitlist harder once May rolls around. They have to fill all open slots to stay in business, but ‘extended housing’ ie triples, and overfilled classrooms suck and hurt everyone involved. One arch school program I visited last fall wanted 94-96 first years, got 125 enrolls and only one dropped out by October. It was cramped and will continue to be unless there are more transfer outs or drops.

In fewer words, college admissions this year is more of a crapshoot than in any previous year.

That said;
Good luck to all of you!
