Reaching premature decision?

So there is a lot of conflicting information on here about when exactly Pitt is reading apps/sending results. When I visited, the woman at the info session said that they would start reading apps October 10 (10/10/11), and that we would hear back by Thanksgiving at the latest, however some people are saying that they already got decisions. I applied in August and just last week sent my SAT scores and only then did it say the application was complete. I want to submit an essay, but I’m worried that since my application has been complete for a few days now, that they might reach a decision before my essay gets there. Is this a legitimate concern? Is the essay even that relevant in the scheme of things? I’m sitting down to write my essay today, and will probably send it later this week.

I think an essay is required for scholarship/honors college applicants, but optional for others. That said, I think it could only help to send in an email; I’d suggest that you email it to the admissions office with a note that you would like it added to your application.
