Very disappointed in the staff and employees at lafayette college i am actually glad that my child was not accepted . . . Lets talk about rude

collegelife21,

I’m sorry you feel that way – I remember a few colleges that did the same to me!

Please put your opinions to good use. Email admissions@lafayette.edu and let Admissions know of your experiences. While it’s most likely that you and your child were some of the unfortunate few who simply “fell between the cracks,” believe me that Admissions would still appreciate your input (even if you think the College doesn’t deserve it – think of those who will come after).

From the admissions office to the athletic dept …
Lafayette was the only college that did not acknowledge my childs sport package that we sent off to them . . . . .
All other schools and we sent this info off to 20 schools at least acknowledged his material

to me thats a little scary a college of that caliber should be a little more considerate than that . . . . . Its as simple as common courtesy . . . . Which obviously is not instilled in there employees and we want our children there and paying 50 000.00 a year for that i do not think so your not all that sorry . . . . .
Very disappointed . . . . .

collegelife21,

Lafayette may not notify you if/when additional non-required materials have been received. However, Admissions Officers insist that ALL materials sent to their office are reviewed, even supplementary materials such as paintings, musical performances on tape, etc. They even take the time to forward these materials to the appropriate academic dept. for commentary.

Well, I am in fact truly sorry – I’m just a student, mind you, and I remember receiving the same treatment back when I was looking at undergraduate institutions (and more recently as I applied to grad school). I don’t think specific schools should bear the blame. The whole process is screwed up, if you ask me.

Your disappointment certainly has merit. Again, your comments would be most useful beyond the realm of this online forum.

Admissions where the rude ones why bother took a day off work had 2 appointments and was blown off on our athletic dept appointment

collegelife21,

Here’s my final word on your predicament: if you’re not a forum ■■■■■ or a dejected/rejected applicant trying to get back at the school by bashing it, you’ll let Admissions know so this doesn’t happen to another prospective student.

All the best,

Common courtesy . . . . . . . There follow up was horrible

I think you’re beating dead horse at this point. Everyone is rejected, there is no need to blame the school’s admission departments or try to sour future candidates. My favorite thing about Lafayette so far was their acceptance letter- it was very personal, and mentioned specific points from my application as well as suggesting on-campus groups and activities that I might be interested in. To me, this shows that they did in fact carefully read applications and supplementary materials. The admission department is absolutely swamped during application time, but I’m sure they would appreciate your input now… P.S. It is a little distressing that 4 of your 5 total posts have been on this thread specifically aimed at bashing the school.

I am not bashing the school i am just letting others know of our experience . . . All the other schools that my child applied to and was accepted and wait listed at did not do business like lafayette sorry … My child got into franklin marshall, gettysburg, lehigh

And is going to lehigh see you at the rival game of the year

collegelife21 – You need to articulate the problem you had with Admissions a little more clearly. Rude? In what way? Who specifically was rude? What exactly happened with the athletic department? Did a coach forget an appointment? I am not saying something unpleasant didn’t happen during your interactions with LC staff, but in all honesty neither I or any of the other parents of prospective Lafayette students have ever encountered rude and unhelpful behavior from the people in Admissions.

Congratulations on your child’s admission to F&M, Gettysburg and Lehigh. Just curious, however, since you mention the Athletic Department: Is your child a Division I-caliber athlete? Was he/she recruited or were you just inquiring into “walk on” opportunities. I ask also because, while Lehigh has a DI athletic program like Lafayette, the other two colleges are DIII.

I am very surprised.
I have found Lafayette have the most personal touch throughout the entire application process and my D applied to 15 schools.
From scheduling our visit , alumni interview ,campus tour , admissions presentation and even the acceptance letter , I found Lafayette to be very professional and caring.

The acceptance letter referenced her supplemental essay and her E/C’s.It made her feel like she was not just a number with gpa and sat’s being analyzed and that someone actually took some time in judging her her entire application.

My daughter will not be attending , she now wants a bigger school , but Lafayette admissions process was first rate for our family.

Good luck!

I have over 2 decades of experience with Lafayette - both DH and I were students (and hence applicants once upon a time), and now my DS is a sophomore. I have never found anyone at the college to be less than courteous and professional. I’m sorry your experience didn’t live up to that. Justin is right though, you need to articulate exactly what your complaint is, not throw around general “rude” comments, and let admissions know so that they can correct the problem. Perhaps it is an individual employee or coach who needs to be reminded.

I find your experience with Lafayette very surprising, and totally out of character. While a very long time ago, my experience was just the opposite. I found the admission staff and the athletic department very professional and courteous in every way possible. If someone could not answer a question, they went out of their way to find someone who could. Ultimately, that is why I decided to attend the school. Even years later, when attending an admissions program for children of alumni interested in applying to Lafayette, my son and I felt most welcome, and the admissions staff was very prepared and friendly.

Are you sure that the coach in question did in fact receive the materials that you sent even though that submission was not acknowledged? I agree that more facts need to be learned. Was your child a recruited athlete? What sport?

I certainly wish both you and your child the best of luck. Lehigh is a great school, and I wish you child much success and happiness there.

Five stars to Lafayette for personal attention from admissions staff, professors right down to the many students who enthusiastically volunteer to make prospective students feel very comfortable. This one person’s grievance is surely an anomaly. I can not tell you how great our experience has been and continues to be at Lafayette.

D was just there on Monday…my wife said that they “rolled out the red carpet.”

We just visited with our daughter over Lafayette’s spring break and, with Justin’s help, were able to schedule an interview and personal tour (despite no scheduled admissions’ events that week). We were very impressed with Lafayette and the attention our daughter and family received.
