Ready for the nor'easter?

Well my brother and SisIL and nephew just took S out to a lovely seafood feast in VA/DC. They look warm and happy! Glad nephew is t stranded alone in the storm in CT for his spring break!

Cuomo has closed all state offices tomorrow -except in the North Country where 18"+ is no big deal. But H has to go in. At least he has a sofa in his office to sleep on. I told him to book a hotel room but he probably won’t bother.

D2, in DC, just posted that she has “wine and hot pockets” for snowpocalypse. Ugh!

i didn’t go to the store–probably should have but t’s so COLD. In NYC, there’s usually a run on bottled water --in many buildings no water above 7th floor if there’s a power outage; matches–gas stove will work with them even if electric pilot won’t; batteries for radio and flashlights. Prediction is about 20 inches. NYC schools already closed for tomorrow and above ground trains won’t be running --being taken to underground safety.

S seemed very calm when he texted and said he was fine. I’m so glad he doesn’t seem concerned. Nice they all had a nice meal together. My nephew was lucky he opted to spend the break with his folks. Hope S sees them again.

@stradmom My kid bought spaghettios, Cadbury eggs and two saucer sleds. 26 going on 10

No weather deserves hot pockets or spaghettios!

DC is going to have its snowball fight at Dupont Circle tomorrow.

Looking forward to the snow. Wished I had this much snow in the winters when I was going through K-12. Could have used a few snow days.

Snow days just get tacked onto June around here. Sitting in a classroom when the weather is beautiful in June isn’t fun.

Lots of students cut class toward the end of the year.

And if one had a perfect attendance record and good/great academic record up to that point and cut entire days rather than some classes, school authorities are far less likely to notice/care IME.

And that’s not even bringing in how some schools are structured in such a way that the last few weeks of the school year in June is literally “dead time” because lessons/exams are all finished and students/teachers are literally showing up as a pro forma exercise.

I didn’t run out to get milk or eggs because I knew I could to a bodega 24-7 to get them if necessary. But I wish I had plan ahead about the wine, this is what I got from my wine store:
“Your Order is being held for shipping until after the major snowstorm due to hit New Jersey on Tuesday. Our concern is that the incoming weather may cause your order to get stuck somewhere where conditions could damage the wine We anticipate our shipping will resume on Wednesday,”

@cobrat @doschicos Happy in suburban MD that schools are closed tomorrow. It’s our first snow day of the year and we have 4 built into the schedule. If we don’t use any, we don’t shorten the school year so we’re in school 'til mid-June anyway. As a first grade teacher and mom of 2 teens, we are all pretty happy to have the day off tomorrow!

We’ve been downgraded from a blizzard to a mere winter storm, and I have a stinking feeling that we’re going to get around 6" – which we got last Friday without much disruption.

Not too happy - I’ve had a long planned family trip leaving Wednesday that Southwest cancelled last night (three days ahead). I’ve rescheduled, but now we are all on different flights that leave later and arriving at different times.

Well we have been upgraded from a winter storm to a blizzard with the potential for 24-30 inches of snow. Yikes.

All the travelers got irline reservations arriving Thursday or Friday. Whew.

And the governor has ordered all non-essential vehicles OFF the roads until further notice…I believe after midnight. So…unless you re. First responder, or hospital employee being taken to work, or road crew…no work in this state!

Our forecast is now 20 to 32 inches between now and tomorrow night. Northeast winds avg 20 mph and a temp barely reaching 20 degrees. The Binghamton, NY area has already gotten almost one foot of snow. I’m not sure if my dtr has to go in for her job with the county.

The big show here was me trying to get the tarp over the woodpile. Took it off a couple of weeks ago in the high winds to keep it from blowing away. Putting it on is usually a five-minute, two-person job . . . but it was just me, a 20’x20’ tarp, and a woodpile 20’ across (in every direction) and taller than I am. It took almost an hour, and was probably funny as heck to watch - although if you’d been close enough to watch, I’d have recruited you to help!

I’m so enjoying looking out the window now and seeing it covered with snow - it looks like a big ol’ circus tent! And I know my efforts were worth it - there’ll be plenty of shoveling to do, but at least my wood will be dry.

Reading tweets about storm underperformance - some livid, most entertaining. 12-18 inch predictions in central nj only a few inches and rain.
Here in south east nj all rain as predicted
Not a good morning for weather forecasters

The snow just started in southern Maine. There’s still a blizzard warning in effect for this afternoon. 16-22 inches is the prediction.

My husband and I will watch it all from our home office. We’ve already scheduled an office meeting in our hot tub for late afternoon, at the height of the storm.

@TonyK Hope your daughter stays safe.

It’s mostly sleet in my area, about 2-3" instead of 8-12".
