I heard the warm air front is sitting on top of the storm, at least in this extended Boston area, Providence to Portsmouth, that’s causing the changes.
About an hour ago, I shoveled. It was about an inch and the sort of light snow where you can just push the shovel with one hand. You can barely tell now.
The other thing we all do when snowbound is talk about the weather. A lot. I did walk the dog. Until we came to a tree with a large hawk sitting there, eying her.
My part of NoVA got only about 3 inches or so of slushy wet snow. Woke up at 9AM to find out office was open. Got to work in record time. Roads were clear and hardly any traffic.
I’m really bummed that my Southwest flight from Providence to FL scheduled for tomorrow morning was cancelled on Sunday night. I had to book a nasty flight later tomorrow night that gets in after midnight, and I couldn’t get H and younger S on it - they’re leaving on the same flight Thursday. So, we lose two days of vacation together as a family. It’s almost impossible to get everyone together in one place anymore, especially on a trip, and the hotel had to be prepaid and it’s not cheap.
Looks like we got about 6 inches of snow that tapered off to sleet and is now over. Do they ever reinstate flights? I see no reason why the runways won’t be clear by tomorrow morning.
Here in the MA Berkshires, the wind is howling, we’re getting a couple inches of snow per hour, and it’s whiteout conditions. The plowing is getting done, but it all just keeps drifting back all over the roads. This is supposed to keep going until after midnight…
I walked to work, and my face was pretty frozen when I got here… and it’s a short commute! I dread walking home, though. Maybe I’ll camp out in my office tonight.
That’s lousy @Gourmetmom. I was supposed to fly on SW tomorrow, too, and when I went to rebook I couldn’t get a non stop flight until next Monday - and it ruins the whole day when you have to switch planes. I didn’t want any flight that’s get in late either as I don’t like my mom driving at night to have to pick me up. Fortunately, I have no hotel or work to get back to after do I extended my return to the 27th.
It’s quite possible my original flight isn’t even cancelled - I just didn’t want to keep checking or thinking about it.
Glad to hear about the situation in the Berkshires. My d works part of the time up there and part of the time in NY and so she hadn’t yet responded to my text today. I know that she was planning to sleep in and work remotely rather than go into her office there. Actually that was the plan for everyone there.
We are in Boston staying next to Cambridge Side Mall. Nearly every store is closed.
Even Starbucks closed after a few hours. All restaurants were closed by 2 pm
There were many many security folks just milling around.
Our poor server for lunch told us it cost him $30 to make it to work for a few hours.
We are lucky that there is a good enough restaurant in the hotel for dinner.
Oddly, regular tv stations are not just covering the news every minute like OR does in poor weather.
It’s now raining here in RI. I just looked out at my bluestone patio and can see a thick slab of snow/ice floating on top of about 2 inches of water. The water just has nowhere to go. This is basement flooding weather for folks around here.
3 neighbors and I got out and cleared, once the snow stopped. Now what’s on our street after plowing, is slushy. The concern is what ices overnight. It may not go over freezing again until Thurs, if then.
Yes, during the day. He loves being outside, he has so much energy.
Blizzard conditions now. Our daughter, home on spring break, took the dog out to get some black and white photos with her film camera (for an assignment). She came in and dropped the camera. The back popped open and the film was exposed. She stayed calm, fixed the camera, and went outside again. The dog will sleep well tonight!
My kids are in NYC. One plans to drive home to Ohio timeouts, one goes to mass later this week. A little worried about the one driving torrow, he already delayed a day, had planned to drive today.
I think our local meteorologists were spot on with their predictions here. My husband and I had drs appointments this morning and after, we drove into the shore towns until we came to a closed bridge. We were hoping to check out our friend’s house and one of our businesses that is prone to flooding. I don’t think the flooding was as damaging as the storm Jonah from last winter , at least to our area.
After we left ,the high tide came in and we saw our are on the national news that showed some moderate flooding.
When we crossed the main thorofare out , the bay was pretty full , and honestly , it looked beautiful. The water was crystal blue with a few things floating in there that didn’t belong. We were spared, and I am grateful
So we have had about 26 inches and it is still coming down!
Did a lot of shoveling today. H does not want a snowblower. He says he wants the exercise. Well, I helped him once today. Then, a few hours later we paid a couple of local kds to shovel.( Give them credit for being out there hustling) Last time I just let H go it alone. He wants the exercise after all!
Next Christmas a snowblower will be a suggestion for the kids to give us. He has to accept it then. Right? It isn’t like me we can’t afford one.
