Still snowing here and I estimate 20". Only supposed to get and inch or so more.
H never wanted a snowblower and had the same excuse. He is very happy we have one now. We bought it with our neighbors and so it cost us only $500. He even wants to get a small one now to do the deck.
Oh, and H and I just got back from Jamaica. Haven’t been shopping for 10 days. He went yesterday after work for a few items but the store was wiped out. Lucky we literally did our traveling the day before the storm. But unlucky, I guess, in some ways. Hahaha.
Tell your husband this year’s models go on sale in April and May and how much you both will save if you get one this spring. I finally bought one in my late 50’s.
Lake effect snow today brings another 5 to 8 inches on top of the 12 to 18 we already have. So we got hit with a northeaster and then a northwester. Binghamton had 27 inches as of last night. The Cooperstown area of NY was also hit hard by the storm. Think spring.
It is beautiful today: bright blue sky, deep cover of fresh white snow.
H had to shovel a path for his car last night from the road to the garage…probably 150 feet or so. Our plow gal hadn’t arrived since it was still coming down. I figured he could handle it, since he goes to the gym at least once a day every day.
Only downside for me is that there is now a 5 ft high snow mountain between me and the chicken coop, which must be navigated with a bucket of water.
When I got to work today I was surprised by the poor conditions of the streets and sidewalks in the Times Square area. I’m sure it will all be cleaned up promptly, but it’s not usually this messy. However, as is usual, the ice is skiing down the Bank of America building and pinging of the heads of passersby. I can’t imagine who thought a sloped, glass building in a climate with snow would be a good idea.
Dry streets and sidewalks on my street and the closest main. Yay, the effort was worth it. The problem yesterday was the plow guy who kept going back and forth to push boulders into the end of my driveway. Big, hard ones. Luckily, I have a neighbor from way up north on the Maine-Canada border who’s our resident snow-troubles guy, can get a car out of a drift, etc. He handled that bit.
I want to add about getting a blower, that’s still the exercise. Ours is an 18" electric, maybe 30 lbs, and a workhorse. Maybe $130, on deep sale off-season. No constant bending over to lift a shoveful of snow and then toss it. Shoveling is considered a cardio intensive thing, a risk as we age.
We got less snow than the weatherman predicted–14 inches instead of 24 inches. Yesterday afternoon as the snow was coming down, I heard thunder. Apparently, there’s something called thundersnow!
Or here. A breakdown of snowfall in Upstate NY with more expected: West Winfield 42", Utica Area 36", Binghamton 32", Buffalo 25", Syracuse 21", Albany 17", and my town 18". That’s a 300-mile stretch from west to east. It’s still snowing!
Eight states in the Northeast had places that got more than 20 inches of snow. Seven locations that I know of got over 30". The storm moved further west than they thought. Bad for us but better for folks along the coast. No school or work two days in a row.
