I am an international student from india.

I have funding for studying in a university in the US (ohio state university) only for the first two years. I believe that i can muster up a scholarship for the remaining 2 years by excelling in my studies in the initial 2 years also I am planning to work for atleast 10-15 hours per week n also at times stay back during my vacations and work.

Do you think I should go and study in OSU ?

My other choices include studying at cardiff in the UK or Acadia university in Canada.
or staying back in india and initially pursuing a chartered accountacy course along with a correspondence course from Delhi University and later do my MBA in from a leading university in the US.

well i believe there is alwasy an option of taking a gap year in between. like you could take an year off before junior year i think, that is if you want to! And you could use this time to get some paying job, search for scholarships etc., it will relieve you of some financial burden. Because you want to minimise your loan by as much as is possible.

If you can afford all four years , then you could always go to Cardiff or Arcadia or do the MBA in the US thing. But if you think all that money is worth a bachelor’s degree from OSU then go for it. It cheaper to get a graduate degree in the US i think.

<<- all this coming from sb just starting senior year…so i dunno how much my advice is worth!

Hey uncrushable. I live almost right on the OSU campus, so if you have any questions feel free to pm me.

OSU has a large Indian community, as does Columbus itself, so you will not feel too homesick, hopefully. Lots of the profs are Indian, especially in science and math (obviously).

If you succeed (and I am assuming you will, as it is not difficult to do that at OSU) then you will get a decent scholarship. You really should have no problem getting full room/board paid by your 2nd or 3rd year. The honors program helps with that if you have not already applied.

Uncrushable,
I’m from India too, and i could be totally off but I was told internationals undergrads arn’t allowed to work in the states (apart from on campus), as we don’t get a work permit…
I know people who’ve stayed back in the vacations and done internships, but that doesn’t get you money…

What about a students loan? Pay them back once you graduate…
Most people talk about studying hard blah blah, never really happens…

Anyhow, I’m confooosed too… about going or staying back, cause i love it here and don’t know whether i’m prepared to be all on my own…
Also, North Campus seems like a nice place to go to Uni… that’s if i get into Delhi University!

Oh, i’m also told CA is very tough to clear… and it can take years, so how prepared are you for that?
And Post Graduation in the States is more expensive than Ugrad…

Anyhow, hope it works out…
