I got waitlisted from many schools that I wanted to attend. Is reapplying really worth it? I mean the reason I didn’t get in was because admissions didn’t think I was needed in this class. I wasn’t what the schools needed and wanted this year. If I apply again next year I would be applying to the same class, so why would admissions think I would now fit in? I am still the same person, and the class and school will still be the same, without the need for a person like me with my stats and character.
Unfortunately, I have no informed insight for you on your question. At the same time, I know you’re disappointed about not getting into a school on the East Coast. The one thing I would say is that I have heard of kids who have started at one boarding school and usually because of a gap in fit, have changed to another boarding school. It sounds from other threads that you’re likely going to attend Cate, so you will have a different profile applying. The downside on applying next year while at Cate is that you delay truly investing in your experience at Cate. On the other hand, your position that you want to attend school on the East Coast because you are West Coast raised is a compelling argument for reapplying - IMO. If you do apply, my suggestion would be to choose 1 or 2 schools and reach out to the Directors in one of your main activities - sounds like music? - and develop an authentic relationship so that they can “pull” you into the school. Again - not an expert at all in this process, but my advice based on observations of others / stories. Best of luck.
Adding on here just a tad:
My biggest advice is just to love the school that loves you.
Did I get into a school that I wanted: nah, not really but it’s an ok school!
Did the school see through all my flaws and offer my placement either way: yes, they did!
Is it worth skipping over them / rejecting them because they might not match my preference: Depends on your answer to the following questions:
----> Did I get enough FA from them: Yes
------> Can I grow as a person at this school / use it as a learning opportunity : Yes!
(You can also chose to transfer while there even though your mind might be just focused on transferring out)
- (some people also factor things like distance to family)
Yea I think I am jumping to the idea of transferring WAY to quickly, I’ll give it some time.
I can relate to you in this way just a bit:
I got into a school on the East coast even though I’m a Mid-Atlantic
Was it my top choice: No, not really
Was the FA good: Love them for the FA
Will I transfer out for my 12th grade year: No, I’m pretty much done transferring schools and I really want to build a tight bond within the new school’s community.
Jumping ship too fast can result in a lost traveler !
Your answers to these questions demonstrate the maturity to succeed where ever you land. Go for it! Would love an update a year from now.
@DishonestPug10 – you have a great option in Cate. No, it’s not on the east coast, but it’s everything else, including prestige.
Please don’t ruin it for yourself by going with the intention of leaving. Throw yourself into it in every way. Get involved. Make friends. Excel in class. If it truly isn’t a fit, you can consider a transfer and you’ll have bolstered your profile along the way. But know as well that without a really good reason for a transfer, an AO will be wondering if you are someone who is always going to be unhappy with what they have - and that’s not a good look.
Your goal was to go to BS. You applied to several, all with brand names. You’re going. You succeeded! Can you go to the revisit day? It’s fine to do that if you’re committed- it’ll give you more information about the school, the students there, etc. And hopefully some excitement about this excellent option!
