What is the common and accepted reasoning to select a topic for your essays. If you are very involved in an activity (sport, volunteering, debate or music) and your resume, counselor and teacher recommendations will comment on it, is it a good idea to write one of the essays on this activity? Or is it better to select something completely different not to be redundant?

Thank you

Don’t restate things that we can read elsewhere. The essay is your chance to convey your voice and your style. Essays that read like resumes are pretty boring and they don’t give us a sense of your personality.

Dean J,
Thank you for your reply. I am not going to repeat things that listed in the resume, but just choose the favourite word, that is this extra-curricular activity, and write how important it is for me and the society, and will strongly voice my position.
Will this work? Or is it still better to think about something different.

Thank you

If you have just listed that EC somewhere, and/or if it appears here and there but there’s nothing too in-depth about it in your recs, then you should write it in your essay if you’re very passionate about it. But just keep in mind that more than to voice your accomplishments, focus more on displaying your personality and writing style.
