<p>I just got accepted to MPS as a freshman, but will not be attending because of financial issues. I was wondering if anyone could suggest some schools to apply to for sophmore year that have excellent academics and athletics, good matriculation, and are NOT in Massachusetts.</p>

<p>Are you hoping that, with a year’s time, the financial situation will be rectified or that you’ll be able to secure better aid?</p>
<p>It is probably too late at most schools to get financial aid. They have already allocated it to students accepted last spring. I would get back in touch with Miss Porter’s and tell them, while you can’t attend this year because of financial aid, that they are your first choice and that you’ll apply again next year so you can be considered for a financial package.

<p>I’d also like to know which schools accept many sophomores, because I’ve also heard of some schools where the competition is a lot fiercer and only accept about 3 or 4 sophomores a year. I also am applying for tenth grade next year.</p>
<p>st. paul’s and taft both are great schools and accept a large number of sophmores…</p>
<p>Did you apply late and do you think that may be why you did not receive an adequate financial aid award? If that’s the case, apply earlier next year and you may be able to afford MPS.</p>
<p>Also look at Emma Willard or Ethel Walker if you’re interested in girls’ schools.</p>

<p>I’m curious why you don’t want it to be in Massachusetts? There are a lot of good schools in MA that add a lot of sophomores.</p>

<p>I noticed on St Andrew’s website:
“Sixty new students are offered places in the III form (9th grade), twenty students are offered new places in the IV form (10th grade), and a few places are offered to new V formers (11th grade) if space is available. Our applicants come from public, private, parochial or foreign schools and some are home-schooled.”</p>

i would much rather save the time differences and international call money and just email the admissions office
but while this may be a small thing, it’s a first impression, in a sense, and i don’t want to mess up the office’s “view” (like maybe emailing makes me seem like i care about it less than if i called?) of me before the interview even starts</p>

<p>Look into Exeter. I went as a new lower (sophomore), and there were about 60 of us. You should be able to get FA there, too.</p>
<p>to westcoast: The reason they want you to call is probably so they can pick a day and time for the interiew, which is a lot easier by phone. However, if you do e-mail, the worst thing that happens is they tell you to call instead.</p>

<p>SPS accepts about 30ish new sophmores, which is a huge number since our form sizes are small to begin with.</p>
<p>If you’re interested in Lawrenceville, it might be a good bet. I also applied as a new IIIrd Former (sophomore), and was surprised to see how many new sophomores there were (I might be wrong, but I believe there were around 50…though don’t take my word for it).</p>
<p>I was also wondering this question, as I too will be applying to boarding school for my sophomore year, so I emailed Andover, Exeter, Choate, and Deerfield. Here were my responses: </p>
<p>Andover: We have approximately 65 new 10th graders each year.</p>
<p>Exeter: We have between 80-90 new sophomores enter the school each year.</p>
<p>Choate: We accept approximately 120-140 sophomores.</p>
<p>I have not yet heard from Deerfield, but I will post their response as soon as I hear it.</p>
<p>I’m not sure if the Choate info is correct. They accepted 160 incoming 9th graders, leaving room for an additional 40 incoming sophomores, as each class size is about 200…on the other hand, they are building a new 10th grade dorm, so maybe they plan to accept more next year?</p>
