Hi. I had a friend whose child was “recruited” or wooed last year, after being accepted to Notre Dame. I don’t know all of the facts, but I believe they flew her child out and paid for the visit once they were accepted EA. I know that various colleges recruit athletes, but does anyone know if UVA might do this (or any other selective school), if they see amazing candidates that they would love to have? Thanks for your time.
I’ve heard of some other colleges doing that for the very top minority students. I don’t know about UVa.
Some colleges will also fly top students out to their college if the college is in a less popular location that is not within an easy driving distance of a large population (which does not apply to UVa).
The Jefferson Scholarship finalists are flown to Charlottesville for the finalist weekend. That’s paid for by the foundation, not the University.
The Office of Admission budget is lean compared to the budgets of our peers (especially private school peers). Days on the Lawn (admitted student open houses) are costly, but thousands are able to attend.
