regents scholarship

x3rose - I got Regents and I didn’t get invited to Scholar’s Day.

did you apply for jacobs school of engineering?

I applied for electrical engineering, so I guess yes.

SQL - Jacobs’ is a full ride scholarship. There’s no need to inquire for more… you’ll be getting your education for free as long as you meet the requirements of the scholarship, which I believe include a GPA requirement and obviously an engineering major.

The Jacobs Scholarship is really underpublicized. Almost everyone who got it didn’t know about it and applied to UCSD as a safety. The scholarship requires you to maintain a 3.0 GPA and have an engineering major (excluding bioengineering - premed).

Also, be aware that scholarships are taxable and count as earned income. Normally, this isn’t a big deal, but it can be for large scholarships.

is it too late to submit a FAFSA to UCSD? i didn’t list it as one of the 6 colleges on my FAFSA to submit to, and now i’m considering UCSD but out of state tuition’s kindof intense.

?!

I believe that you can submit FAFSA even after March 2nd, but it won’t be up for priority review. And since the decisions have been released with who gets what scholarships, you will most likely be left with the undesirable financial aid : the ones with large interest rates or the small loans.

If I applied with “Bioengineering: Premed” as my major, and then changed it to “Bioengineering: Biotechnology” three weeks ago, was I considered for the Jacobs Scholarship?

What criteria do they judge applicants on when awarding this scholarship?
Is the FAFSA required for the scholarship?

wait i heard that you will have to do fafsa every year to get the money
so why not do it next year. just pay it full the first year

jacobs scholarship is only offered to 15 entering freshman each year. it’s quite prestigious. congrats :)

I’m pretty sure it’s offered to more than 15. Many people who receive it end up going to college elsewhere.

The Jacobs Scholarship is offered to around 40 people each year, and 10-15 people usually accept it.

jonthelin: I’m not sure, but I would guess that you weren’t considered for the scholarship. The FAFSA isn’t required.

oh okay… sigh this isn’t the first time my counselor’s wrong about this type of stuff.
