I’m South Asian AND I’m from New York, so basically: Life’s a ***** to me!

Gomestar, I know there are a decent amount of people from Colorado in Cornell as I know my school sends about 4 each year, but how about ILR? Do you think applying from Colorado into one of the New York State funded schools will help?

colorado wont make much of a difference, it’s better than the typical long island type student, but there’s still 3 people from colorado in a 30 person class of mine.

Just how bad is being a “typical Long Island Student”, exactly? (daughter applied ED to Hotel, and unfortunately, we live on LI)

the vast majority of the NY state students on campus are from long island, though hotel is probably different (as in they’re not flooded with people all from the same high school). Sometimes I swear AEM and ILR are just LI high school reunions.

I’d be more worried about great essays and sufficient experience with hotel.

Oh great, and I’m from Long Island too! So to recap, Asian-American, from Long Island, New York.

Thanks. I think she did a good job with her essays…taken as a whole her application is very hospitality focused. She has very good hospitality experience/ECs.

gomestar, thanks for the help, if I remember correctly you work in the ILR admissions office? do you think they will have the ed decisions done on time considering the back up?

I’m not sure about a time frame, I don’t deal with those aspects in admissions. The odds of them being late on a decision is extremely rare in any case.

Hey gomestar, can you please look over my chances thread? It’s write there on the first page, titled “to be or not to be.” Thanks.

after like a 1350/1600 SAT and top-10% w/ AP’s, chances are totally arbitrary. I don’t know who will or who won’t get in, there are too many factors that people don’t take into account when guessing chances (strength of current pool, the adcoms moods, being next after a stellar applicant making you look less than desirable, etc.). Plus, nobody can take into account the most important part, your essays. Do you have scores that put you into the top-50% of enrolled students at Cornell? That’s good, now do you feel lucky today?

i don’t know… when we toured, the guide was from Wisconsin (?) and he said he was like 1 of 12 from the mid-west/great lakes/wisconsin area (i forgot which one)

What are chances for female engineering major from Texas. 4.0 GPA top 3% of class at US News 100 HS. 34 ACT Composite 2200 SAT. Better than average ECs.

Chances excellent, esp. if math SAT 750 plus and Science ACT 32 or better.

How well is the state of Florida represented at Cornell? particuarlly the ILR school? any advantage being from there?

ACT Math 36 ENG 35 SCI 32 Writing 11
SATII Math II 800

you know, i personally know a few people who read the essays for ilr (i don’t work in the admissions office though).

everybody in ilr personally knows some of the essay readers. Most just don’t know it!

I am New Yorker applying to the College of Human Ecology. I have lived in India for over 10 years and I am also the first generation to go to college in my family…do u think i have any advantages?

does it help to be from oklahoma?
