Regrets about college decisions

I am in my first year of college, and I am starting to regret my college decision.
During my senior year, I got into my dream school and some other schools that I was interested in. But I could not afford going to my dream school and at that time, I wanted to go to a private university because I thought that would help with networks and connections. So I eventually chose to go to Chapman University since it was the only private university that gave me a good financial aid package and scholarships. I am paying about 13k a year so it is not that bad, but seeing my other friends going to CSU/UC and paying so much less make me regret my college decision.
I also feel like the school that I am attending right now is not “prestigious.” I know it may be pointless to care about rankings and stuff, but I feel like they are important for job outcomes.
I want to transfer to UCs in my junior year, and I am not sure if I will be able to do that because I heard that they take most of the transfers from Cali CC.
Should I go to CC and try to transfer to UCs, or should I just do my best in the school that I am in right now? I would appreciate advices. Thank you.

I grew up in OC and would never in my mind apply to Chapman for UG. Back then it was still called Chapman College and it’s a very regional school. I think outside OC, probably few people have heard of it.

Having said that, small school does have its charm. Most people there do love it one way or another. Chapman is also fairly generous with scholarships. $13k is actually less than any of the UC which is priced at $16k+. Your friends paying less, perhaps with financial aid?

Assuming you live at home, otherwise 13k sounds very cheap. Nearest CSU are Fullerton, Long Beach, Dominguez Hill, Pomona, and LA which may be commutable.

Bottom line is if you are not happy, then CC → transfer may be the way to go.

What is your major? There are some at Chapman that are VERY highly regarded.

@cy7878 we are from the opposite coast and Chapman was a school our kid considered. Definitely has changed since a generation ago.
