Rejected Stanford SCEA: Chances at Harvard?

Oh, and about the OP, I think he has a good enough chance for Harvard. What I mean by a “good chance” is like a 50/50 chance (a chance I would personally die for). All I can say is to not be surprised if you are rejected (I have said the same thing on every chance thread). Anyways, Science Fiction and I already explained the negative aspects of your app above.

To those who say our comments our cruel (like my friend Helicio), we are just trying to give the most realistic-thought-out answers. I apologize if I had offended you, but please understand our comments are based off of what your APP says about you, not what what we think of you (Asian Robot, etc.).

IMO, pessimism is always better than optimism when it comes to college admissions to highly selective schools. Just think about it, would you rather expect an acceptance than end up getting rejected or thinking you will get rejected and magically end up with an acceptance? If you think you will be rejected, and you are rejected, there is no unpleasant suprise.

Vividi, or whoever you are (by the way I realize that I’m a tad late on replying to this, but I think that in reading this, loose ends may be met):
Stanford may have accepted you or at least deferred you to RD round

IF

Your passion for Economics stood out (what did the Harvard Summer Program focus on? Econ?)
Or you could’ve made it stand out in many other ways:
But at Stanford, the admissions office values innovation above anything else in an application.

Therefore, if you could’ve shown your Economics passion in a different, think-outside-the-box sort of way, and shown THAT come through in at least one of your essays, and maybe shown that it was your ‘important’ EC or at least one of them, you would have likely joined Stanford’s Freshman Class of 2013, and could be enjoying the Californian sunset in the midst of some stunning architecture.

And if your passion was of something else, then replace that word wherever ‘Economics’ appears in my post.

Austin

Ps. That crap you shot about the instruments and how they made you ‘happy’ about seven different occasions–'tis not getting by anyone. If you’re so happy about an instrument, then DEMONSTRATE a challenge involving it.

Gosh, it really upsets me when people with such gleaming academic profiles can’t spot the gaping holes in their applications.

Good day.

It is so much harder for international students to get into places like HS than the low odds for American citizens, that it would be a waste of time for people to give you odds. You are competing with some of the most outstanding students from around the world for a very few spaces Unfortunately, the bulk of your competitors probably are outstanding, well off Asians, and the top colleges aren’t going to fill all of their international spots with students from China, Korea and India, so we don’t know whether you will get in. I don’t think that the fact that you were rejected from Stanford means Harvard will reject you, too. You still have a chance at Harvard, but I wouldn’t estimate how large that chance is.

I have to agree with Science Fiction. It’s a very brutal evaluation, but I think it’s true: you DO come off on paper precisely the way he/she described you, regardless of who you truly are. And I think that’s probably why Stanford rejected you EA instead of deferring you–you have ALL the right stats (GPA/scores wise) to be deferred or even accepted, but they probably just said “Oh look another scattered Asian applicant” and tossed it in the reject pile.

I think you have the same chance at Harvard as any other Asian applicant with good stats, but you don’t leap above the norm in any outstanding way.

Despite whichever way she might have come off, the OP did end up at Cornell, which is a great school nevertheless.

whaaa…? oh wow, didn’t even SEE that :P

why are we reviving a dead thread? 0,0

This is a joke right? Lemme dissect your awards for u. The youth leadership award was something that was mailed out to anyone who wasnt ■■■■■■■■ on the PSAT. Its an mail sent to students that gets them to shell out $3000 for the summer. “certificate of distinction in Fermat” contest. That just means you got top 10%… “School commitment award”??? That just shows u hang out at school 24/7. “School physical education award!!!” ur joking right?? If u put this on ur common app, id straight out reject you too.

lol high honor rolls. Academic awards… lol.

This person has nothing to truely standout in awards. Just another korean person who is “deeply in touch with his or her culture.” A dime a dozen.

JasoninNY are you a joke? I noticed you deleted your thread concerning your fear of getting rescinded because I happened to link it in your other thread claiming you are still studying for SATs.

I can sympathize if you have an obsessive lying disorder, otherwise your idiot ■■■■■■■■ is not appreciated here.

First of all, I don’t see a true human behind all of this. I mean all the extra-curriculars are all over the place. What did you want to do during your high school years that made your passions flow? Also, I’ve never heard of any of these awards. I’m not saying that they didn’t mean anything but it kind of sounds like you accomplished these things for the sake of making a check mark on a ‘to do’ list.

dang this person is RICH
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone on here with income above 500k

@Stupefy - Most people who make that much list themselves as “high” or something. Most people don’t like to publicize the amount of money their family has.
