Renewal of Global Entry

When I applied for Global entry, it took months to get approved for an interview. I applied with my H and two friends . We were all taking a trip together. I was the only one delayed and it came down to the wire. I was a military brat. but other wise could not figure it out.
I am wondering if you need to apply for renewal months before it expires?

I applied and got the invite to make an appointment four days later. DH travels overseas a lot, but he was processed and renewed quickly. Wonder what the algorithm is assessing?

No problems renewing. I think I’ve done it at least once. I also have Nexus (for going into Canada) and I think the renewal this time had to be under Nexus and Global Entry came with it. No interviews required. Amex Plat has paid for it. Also have a similar arrangement with the UK. Renewal was just filling out a form and giving them a credit card number.

This thread prompted me to check and I had just passed my four year mark but, in completing the renewal application, it turned out my passport was less than a year from expiring so I had to renew it first. That process just took about 2-3 weeks (I was pleasantly surprised) so I was then able to complete the GE renewal process which I did less than a week ago. I just received an email that it was approved. I can’t believe how little time it took…our local airport is notoriously difficult to obtain an interview appointment and I was envisioning a process that took months. So happy!

My TSA Precheck status is expiring in January. Since I travel internationally fairly often, I decided to spend an extra $15 and apply for Global Entry. My credit card was charged on August 19. I have not heard anything. When I submitted my application, I noted my login information. However, if I try to login, it can’t find an account, and if I do the “forgot password” link and enter my email address, I do not receive an email. It says if you don’t receive an email it might mean your account is disabled. I just submitted a “complaint” (includes if you are having trouble). I was trying to be proactive and do this early; glad I didn’t wait!

^^Very odd, @college_query. Here’s hoping to a speedy resolution for you.

For anyone interested in a recent global entry renewal experience: applied for renewal on Dec. 30; received approval email this evening, January 1st. My expiration date was 6 months from now. May be a good time to submit if expiration is coming up.

H applied less than a week ago and was recently approved for another 5 years. No interview was required. I just applied.

Will check to see if I’ve moved out of pending. I applied 12/30—it remains pending.

I applied for Global Entry in August. My application was FINALLY approved December 21. I have an interview scheduled next week when I return from a trip. My TSA pre-check expires January 5 and I leave for a trip on January 6, so I’ll be without expedited entry. I travel for work frequently and have some international travel, so thought for an extra $15 it made sense. I have no idea why it took so long.

We applied for a renewal and heard back in about a week. Husband was approved without an interview. Daughter and I have conditional approval but do need to do the interview. I’m planning to do it upon entry when we return from an international trip in January. I’d do it on return from the vacation I’m on but I’m flying into Boston and Logan doesn’t do the “just talk to the agent when you go through customs” type.

I just heard that anyone with conditional approval will be given a one year extension to their Global Entry to accommodation for the interview backlog.

I applied for GE renewal 12/30 and approved today 1/2 with no interview! It was very quick. The hardest thing was figuring out the correct site to sign up to renew and then create a login.gov account with two or three factor verification.

H used one of S’s CCards, so his application will be paid for by the CCard. I used H’s United Explorer Card so mine will also be reimbursed by CCard.

The correct link is: https://ttp.dhs.gov/

Don’t use the scummy other links to “help” you get your card or renewal. They charge but don’t really add any benefit I can ascertain and charge whatever they think folks will pay—extra $99 or whatever. Who knows what they’ll do with info you provide?

It seems that there is no rhyme or reason to how this works. DH renewed his in mid-April and received approval in 2 weeks. I submitted my renewal on May 1st and I finally got approval about 4 months later (and only after I sent an online request for help). DS submitted his renewal in November and got approval in less than a week! And DS is the one who had traveled to more countries than either of us.

Hard to determine what variables are at play here and how random people’s experiences are. If you rely on the program, it makes sense to build in some time for the process. I was glad that renewal did not involve a second interview; apparently sometimes it does. Did not expect 48 hour turn around with notification on a national holiday.

Anyone know if a new card is required with the renewal? The program is different now and I have yet to look into whether or not I should request a new card.

The old card states an expiration date, so I’m assuming we will receive the new replacement card in the mail for our $100 application fee. H and I were also pleasantly surprised at the quick turnaround time between us applying and getting approved. I had figured maybe sometimes in early 2020 before they even looked at my application, since I applied on 12/30, but no, it’s already been approved!

@travelnut - we did get new cards automatically with our renewals.

Thanks, @my2sunz. I wasn’t sure if they would be sent automatically.

Do you need to use your original email address for renewal? I’m not sure mine is still valid.

DH and I applied for Global Entry in August. We have not heard from them since, except to let us know about new places for an interview. Today, I checked my account, and it shows that I have been conditionally approved. I have never received an e-mail from them. I managed to get an appointment for an interview in late April – right before we leave for Europe.

I applied Sept. 3, was conditionally approved Sept. 6, had the interview Dec. 2nd. Got my card a week later. I thought three months seemed a long time when I got the appointment, but after hearing y’all’s experiences, I guess it wasn’t so bad.

I did the interview upon arrival from an international trip. It couldn’t have been easier. I sent my husband for the bags and met him outside about 5 minutes after he was ready to go. I was asked a few questions about information on the renewal application, re-fingerprinted and photographed and sent on my way. That was a week ago and I got my new card in the mail today.
