Anyone ever used a RAC for furniture? Looks like it’s going to be a month (at least) before our furniture reaches us. But we’ve signed a lease for a nice house & only have a few days left in our Air BnB. So I’m thinking about renting a few essentials like washer/dryer, beds, couch, etc. Anyone have any experience w/ RAC?
I would not touch them with a long pole.

Buy some air mattresses and a cheap folding table.
Whoa!!! Ok, um plan b. CORT??
Before knowing about any lawsuits, I would say no to any furniture rental place.
I used to be a property manager and had residents/tenants that used these places all of the time. It doesn’t usually end well for the person renting the furniture.
I’d be more likely to use a laundry mat for laundry and buy cheap used at goodwill or something then donate it back when you get your stuff. It will probably be cheaper for you in the long run.
Avoid buying or renting mattresses and upholstered furniture, bed bugs abound at both thrift stores and the rental stores. Air mattresses are your best bet as far as beds go.
Afterwards you can probably sell the air mattresses on Craigslist or FB Marketplace if you don’t want them. Hot item.
They are a terrible company.
Is CORT any better? We can’t go 1-2 months w/o furniture.
I don’t know anything about CORT. I still would not rent mattresses or upholstered furniture from any rental place, no matter their reputation, because of the bed bug issue.
Beds? If you have camping equipment, just go camping inside your new place until you buy a bed.
Washer/dryer? Is there a laundromat in the area?
No camping equipment. Everything we own is in a warehouse in New Orleans and won’t released for at least a month
I would call a realtor and discuss this with them. They use stagers all of the time and may be able to advise you.
I lived for a few weeks with a lawn chair and a pad on the floor. I was in my late twenties and it was depressing even then.
Get inflatable beds…you can always use them as “guest beds” once your real furniture arrives. You can probably get an inexpensive kitchen table and chairs at a resale shop.
Find the nearest laundromat or send your clothes out to be washed.
I’d be lobbying to get my real stuff delivered sooner. Work on that.
We rented furniture for a few months when we first got married and didn’t have any problems. But that was 1986!
Just compare the costs, you can probably just buy a few bits that you need in the interim and sell them after. Is your furniture stuck because of customs? Why a month?
I’d get inflatable beds or “bed in a box” mattress and/or a futon mattress/couch that has a dense mattress so that it’s solid & use as a bed. With so many bedbugs and insect issues these days, I wouldn’t take 2nd hand upholstered furniture. Inflatable beds will be useful for your guests even after your real furniture arrives. You may wish to buy a table that could double as something else or a small one where you sit on the floor (depending on your flexibility).
I’d just take clothing to laundromat while waiting for washer/dryer. A month or two of it will be inconvenient but bearable, heck many people do it regularly.
My kids were pretty satisfied with the Ikea beds for a few years. They also bought an Ikea sofa that converts to a double bed, which we sleep on when we visit. I believe the prices were reasonable.
My parents used a furniture rental company and had no problems, but I can’t remember if it was RAC or not. They were spending 3-4 months two winters in a row in FL to be near me when D19 was born. They found a perfect house that allowed their dog but it had no furniture.
I wouldn’t’ rent beds or probably even couches though, just freaks me pout even though I know it’s not much different than going to a hotel. I think I would buy one cheap mattress and put it on the floor. I couldn’t sleep on an air mattress for a month, even a night or two is a pain.
@momtogkc I’m not suggesting an air mattress like you take camping. I’m suggesting something like an Aerobed. Get the one that inflates to 18 inches high.
We had a complicated moved and lived for 7 weeks with a borrowed air mattress, card table, and 2 lawn chairs. We did laundry at first at either a laundromat or a neighbor who kindly offered. We didn’t own a washer/dryer so after the first paycheck we purchased those.
I bought a few kitchen items while we waited, as well. We didn’t know it would be that long of a wait. We survived.
We used CORT one year of grad school for D - really far away and easier. Not the cheapest but fine to deal with. Stuff was as advertised and they cheerfully replaced table with desk when we determined it would fit better. Delivery and pickup easy and prompt.
In your case I would evaluate current beds in storage. If any are near replacement age for mattresses, I would buy a new mattress for floor and pitch old one when it gets there. Kids would have to live on air mattresses. Maybe buy some nice outdoor furniture if you don’t already have some and can use it in rental and use inside until your stuff comes.
Agree with the post above. I would use this as an opportunity to reevaluate and update my furniture.
