Repair or replace Bosch DW?

My husband hates our fridge. I hate our stove. Both are about 7 years old…we are waiting for them to die, but hope they will hang on until the availability is there for us to choose and get new ones.

We don’t want the Bosch dishwasher to die.

We purchased a stove for our prior home that had a “Perfect Turkey” setting with a probe. Amazingly enough, it worked. Can’t remember the brand. Electrolux?

In our new home, we have older appliances. We have a simpler Bosch here and are going to add a second Bosch when we redo the kitchen. Also simple. KISS. We hope none of the appliances die as they are all very nice.

Our Jenn-Air dual fuel range is original to the house and 25 years old. It looks like a mess, but all the main stove and oven functions work. We are looking at installing a hood because the downdraft has stopped working. When we bought the house 18 years ago, I never had faith in that downdraft venting, but we’d been living with it. Every time I look at a new range I think about it dying within 10 years.

@whidbeyite2002 We had a Jenn-Air duel fuel range in a house we lived in for 11 years. I wasn’t sure I wanted the range (we remodeled the kitchen and the only place to put the stove was in an island in the middle, so a downdraft was the only option.) But after dealing with giant Vent-A-Hoods in this and our previous house, I see the brilliance of that downdraft vent. It was super easy to clean and I didn’t mind cleaning the ceiling above it occasionally.

Funny, I have a 25 year old Jenn Air in the middle of the island with a down draft. It’s awesome. Repairclinic is where you go to get what you need to fix it. I have fixed the halogen burners, knobs etc. Lol…

Ah, the drama continues. The DW I ordered, which was supposedly available, now is not. So I called around and back to my original salesman at the local appliance store. I said I’d take a Bosch again, 300 or 500 series.

For the first time in ages, I’m not calling my childhood friend. He kept laughing at me for spending so much on a DW. He just doesn’t get it; supplies are cut off, and people can charge what they want. GE and other major brands are simply not available. Sad

I feel for all those that need an essential appliance. My patient carries her wet laundry to a neighbors house to use the dryer.

Check around for floor models. I went to Lowes yesterday and they had some unboxed ones for a great price since they were unboxed…Just a suggestion.

@bookworm , I’m reading about your DW troubles only now, and looks like you’ve decided to replace it. But if you cannot, try fixing it yourself.

We had a six year old Bosch 800 DW stopped working two months ago. After extensive internet research, we were able to narrow down to two possible problems (in our case a water intake valve and a control board). We bought one at a time for $24 and $129 and replaced both using youtube videos. Bosch has an amazing parts site and can consult with their customer support.

Hope this helps and GL!

I just choose one but they are in stock at ABT…they are a national carrierhttps://www.abt.com/product/54941/Bosch-24-100-Series-Stainless-Steel-Built-In-Dishwasher-SHE3AR75UC.html

Know stuff, ya, tried that. I spent half hour in HD going thru what is available with the salesman, last month. First Q I asked at the local appliance store. I got my fridge from them, a floor model. ABT lists just 4 models, but if I actually called them, the picture would change. I spoke to the largest Local independent appliance store today; they had a very inexpensive and an $$$ one available. As I said, I can go months w/o a DW, but what if it was a fridge?

Our last Bosch ( in 2018) costs us almost 2k. It was top of the line and we went for the very quiet version :). I think I’d consider buying a new one ( if you can avoid the store or only go once to ensure it has the features you want). You’ll still have to expose your family to the delivery person (people) and the plumber ( if you need him/her to hook it up). We are still waiting for new dishwashers. We have the drawer types Fisher Paykel and they had some issues with backorders. Now that numbers are going up again, it’s likely we’ll wait until Spring.

I talked to my contact at ABT yesterday. BTW- she’s in Arizona visiting her mother but still working. She pulled a dryer/washer stackable for me and yes, once it is pulled they take it off their site. But I sent in our washer control board to be fixed and just put it in yesterday and yes, my clothes washer is fixed!!! So she took it off the site and now it’s available for someone else. She told me it’s nuts now and they are one of the largest retailers but she said to tell people she can still get items. If you need help PM me and I will give you her cell and contact. She’s great and said she will include a Knows tuff discount and I said heh, I want that also…LOL (I have no financial gain with this btw), she just likes pics of the space and measurements of the actual space sent to her cell phone. She has pulled a rabbit out of a hat a few times for me…

Ah thx, kNowsstuff. I was going to update on Wednesday, IF my DW is delivered as planned. I did go to the Apt site for info and availability.

The private appliance store is selling me a floor sample, Miele. It’s $50 more than the Bosch 500. Now Bosch cannot deliver. (That was my third choice.)

I passed on the name of my salesman to my patient. They lost use of their fridge and have bought a mini fridge, for the meantime.

NP. If you need her personal cell she has instructed me to give it out. Don’t go by what the site says though…that is my point. Great that you found something.

I have been following this thread with great interest as I will be replacing my current DW with a Bosch whenever it dies. When we moved to my current home, I left behind a Bosch DW that my husband and I loved as it was super quiet. Our cooktop, double oven, and DW are all GE and came with the home when we purchased it 14 years ago and will need to be replaced soon.

Right now, our double oven and cooktop are hanging on by a thread and we have started shopping for both. I was not familiar with ABT but based on information in this thread, I will take a look at their website.

HINT: for double ovens it could just be the controller/ timer. I had my Jenn Air 20 years old rebuilt for $180 by Corecentric and they go by partsimple also. This is what they do for the major stores/repair places. I just replaced one for our 25 year old washer. Has a one year warranty also.

Things are moving fast on these sites since stock is limited everywhere is what I am being told. So it might be on the site one minute and gone the next. Crazy times.

My Miele has been installed. It has a one hour cycle, which could be useful as I tend to rinse dishes and wait u til I have a full load. I haven’t read the manual yet, so won’t seriously run.

Curiously, I’ve been told by 2 repairman that one should cut the cleaning tablets in half, as too much soap is not necessary and can hurt the machine. The installer said this wasn’t true.
