<p>College of Charleston is well respected and has a great historical atmostphere. Prestigious though? Not really sure how high you are aiming. CofC has about a 3.8 gpa accepted GPA avg. It’s a state school, and OOS’ers have a higher standard.</p>
<p>Bowdoin is about 15 minutes to the Maine coastline. St. Mary’s College of Maryland (the public LAC) is right on the Chesapeake River and it has a beach.</p>
<p>Not sure what your definition of “reputable/prestigious” is, but other E coast schools to consider include UNC Wilmington and U Miami</p>

<p>Believe it or not, there is a beach near Yale. I haven’t visited it, but my D says it is not bad.</p>
<p>Univeristy of Miami is close enough to the beach.</p>

<p>UCLA and Berkeley aren’t near a beach. You’d have to drive at least 30 minutes. I don’t know about east coast, but out here in the west:</p>

<p>Chapman is about 25 minutes from Huntington Beach</p>
<p>Univ of Rhode Island very near Narragansett and many students off campus near the beaches.
Salve Regina is in Newport RI and St Mary’s is the honors public college of Maryland.</p>

<p>If you can go west (and to Canada), University of British Columbia. (See Wreck Beach.) Ski Mountains nearby too (go to beach and ski on same day.)</p>
<p>Pepperdine is <3 mins from beach, and the whole campus is gorgeous. I went to the 9/11 reflecting pools once…they too are beautiful and inspiring. Not sure why anyone would want a beach on east coast over west ;p</p>

UCLA is a lot closer to the Santa Monica pier than a 30 minute drive. The bus gets there in around that time and it has a gazillion different stops. (That’s the only place any of our buses really go, BTW.) -.-</p>
<p>Google maps says it takes 15 minutes.</p>
<p>Connecticut College isn’t actually on a beach, but its proximity was used as a selling point when we visited.</p>
