I’m applying to US colleges as an international applicant for Undergrad to several Ivy Colleges and other colleges like Stanford, Duke and MIT. Do any of these colleges requires a separate “STATEMENT OF PURPOSE” besides the main Common App and the supplementary questions of each individual college? Dear Sir/Mam,
If yes, then how and where is it expected to be uploaded as there is no specific option in the Common App portal for the SOP/Personal Statement. I was also having doubts whether it was the same as the Common App Essay but I still wanted to confirm.
Thanks!
No - there is no “statement of purpose” necessary. Just the Common App essay, description of your extracurriculars, etc. and answers to the supplemental questions. If any school has an “optional” essay, it’s not optional – write it. But the schools you mention do not have anything besides their own supplemental questions and the CA.
Are you applying to your home country’s colleges as well? And other non-ivy schools in US?
Not exactly…only the top us schools
Thanks @LoveTheBard . I guess its clear now
An SOP is generally required for graduate school applications. You don’t need to worry about one for a few more years.
If you can afford US colleges-which is at least 60K for top schools-go ahead, but if you need financial aid, you should STRONGLY consider applying to broader ranges of US colleges.
