That’s cruel…

I can see the RSI Adcoms laughing as they see us frantically stress out over the envelopes that will soon be whizzing around the country.

hahahaha, so cruel… exact quotes from PheonixRSI:

“Some years they’ll mail out the acceptances early”

followed by

“Rejections came a day earlier than acceptances.”

Basically, any mail that you get is shady. Oh man, now i’m starting to question if my essay topics were decent (non-locality in quantum theory, this specific question based on my RHIC research, and of course, string theory!)

Oh joy. So now my first thought upon getting the letter will be “AHHH they sent me a letter! That means I didn’t get in!” lol. It’s okay though, because I’ve been preparing myself for it for a while. I mean, it’s only RSI note the sarcasm.

One of us should be really brave and email Maite to ask when the decisions will be mailed. I nominate anybody who isn’t me. :P

not it, called it

oh btw, i did something extremely stupid. when i was updating cee with my act score, in the letter i was like Dear Maite, (b/c she is always referred to as Matie here!! i did it without even realizing!!) and then when i got the response from Maite P. Ballestero, i was like, oh crap. at least now i have something unrelated to blame the rejection on!

Maybe I’ll do it… or maybe not. I have way to much stuff to do right now. Even when I do get the envelope, granting I can’t see the contents, I’ll probably set it aside for a while until I finish the immediate competitions I’ll be in. I know how my emotions affect my work, so I’m planning accordingly.

On a side note, I remember something that personally to me was bigger than RSI getting in or not will be… getting into my current school. I just won a really important tennis match and our school won the match 5-4. My dad called me and was like: “is anybody around you… no… good, <blah private=”" stuff=“”>, o btw, you got in…" I kind of just stood there for a second and then went on. It wasn’t nearly as huge a hit as I expected it to be.</blah>

O… I’ve always addressed her as Ms. Maite in my emails…

lol tennis dude i DID already say in my second post that my first statement was supposed to read: acceptances AND rejections. basically the gist was that they might mail it out anytime before march 31. heh

Is anybody interested in exchanging essays? (Or is that sort of unofficially taboo?) I’m curious to see how other people wrote, what styles they used and their questions and everything. IM me at MasterHackerette if you want to exchange.

yea, you def need a Ms. in there. Ms. Ballestero is what i would of gone with, but Ms. Maite works too. but either one works better than what i sent. you can’t just go around calling people Maite, it’s unhead of.

haha I think I call her Maite in my emails…

Psh and someone said the Harvard deferreds have a tragic flaw? :frowning: I’m one of them.

Look, you haven’t even applied to college yet, let alone gone there or worked in admissions office. Although it’s easy to think you know a lot about what’s going on in various cases, please stop to think about what information you really have and what you just wish were true.

Normally I’d stick to my nice warm fuzzy reputation and not say anything, but it’s not fair to anyone involved to speculate (wrongly) like this, let alone to post such assumptions. Keep in mind that you’re talking about people.

hug and good night!

\edit: and vinny’s beaten me to it! If his awesomeness doesn’t provide sufficient evidence to the contrary, I don’t know what could.

ummm… first off (this is 2005 RSI kids stats) there were more than 9 defered from harvard – i think the actual number is closer to 15 … and im one of them too… i dont think i have a tragic flaw but maybe i do and my vision is just skewed – what i really think is going on is that admissions has become exceedingly more competitive with each passing year (since – im prolly wrong but arent we the kids of the baby boomers? – either way there seems to be thousands of more applicants each year) and while RSI does look great on a resume it isnt what gets people into college – like others said its more that the types of people that RSI looks for tend to be the types of people that colleges are looking for so those who have success in the RSI pool generally have success in the college pool –

As ive said before im not one of the smartest rickoids – in fact im one of the dumbest – so i guess that could be viewed as a tragic flaw – but to say that some of these people have tragic flaws is just silly

anyways sorry you guys seem to be getting lectured by the whole lot of us tonight…

hey whatever happend to the deferee t-shirts? i still want one btw! we should make them!!

I don’t think RSI fully solidify acceptance to any school…

Admission is based on a school’s preference…every amazing person won’t get accepted

Also, I would like to get into RSI, but im not fretting over it.
Math and Physics will always be there for me to explore as it is…that’s all i really care about.

Actually, I think the real number is 11. I know of only two people who aren’t listed on Quentin’s site as deferred. Speaking of that site, how is he going to do regular decisions?

Congrats on all the Caltech shizz, Kim. Are you going there now?

P.S. My essays to Harvard were really bad.

i can think of at least three… but i wont say their names here – and im pretty sure at one point i counted 14… but i could be wrong and making things up

Kim: Your what reputation?? :p

flierdeke,

i apologize if i have offended you. but i do wish life was encapsulated in your idyllic bubble of optimism.

lol@poignantpianist: you said that the Harvard deferrees must each have a “tragic flaw?” wow… as if you need to have a tragic flaw to get deferred from Harvard. You’re probably (as in statistics-wise) going to get rejected from RSI next week and MIT next year, and it’s not like I’m calling you tragically flawed…

geez, be nice.
