Research Science Institute (RSI) 2010

Finally I will not participate for RSI because I already miss the deadline…I hope you good luck to all of you!!!:)

You can still get the app to CEE via USPS express mail; it’s overnight shipping.

Alas, I mowed over like ten people in line at the post office (ok…so not quite ten and I waited patiently in line but I scared quite a few people lol)…they were shutting it down in like thirty seconds (that’s not an exaggeration…door was locked right after me). Good-bye application!

For those of you are about to send your application, make sure you do NOT fold or staple your application. It says on the front page that RSI will not even accept it. I had to redo everything. Also, if you do not have your official score reports…do not worry. I emailed them and they said that if I just got my college counselor’s email address and signature saying that the scores are all correct, they’ll accept it.

I already sent in my app, but can someone show me an application that was accepted? Just wondering what an accepted app looks like.

Thanks.

Yikes! I looked at my RSI essays again today out of curiosity, and I found that I made the mistake of not mentioning RSI even once in them when talking about my research ambitions; that is probably fatal. S**T!

it doesn’t matter

Whos on the selection committee

submitting tomorrow, good luck to ALL.

Does anyone know if its okay for teachers to mail separately?

^ I think it is fine as my teacher called CEE and asked if he could send his in separately and its fine.

Overnighting tomorrow!

Damn I hope I get in and I hope that all of you get in especially because you all have WAY better stats than I do!

officially 2 days left! ><

let’s start building a list of ppl’s locations, where they are applying…

US / State
Potentenum / N/A (overseas)

International

application sent

I think they have a bunch of really specific requirements because that’s what they want ideally, but if a few applications don’t match up, they aren’t overly ****ed.

so…does anyone know if you can pursue your own research project @ rsi or if they assign you one?

From what I understand, you cannot continue your old projects, and they pair you up with a mentor. Not sure what the flexibility is from there.

yea you prob can’t do that bc they would need to find a mentor who does that exact project

Who else can’t stand this wait, sadly it’s been like one day

i was under the impression that most of intel sts winners came up with their own research projects - is that not true then? do some people have mentors give them ideas?

Yea for sure that’s how it works I bet the majority of sci fair winners got projects from mentors

in addition to the aforementioned ssp, what other strictly research programs are you guys applying to?

For me, this is the only one.

Yeah…I know ppl who know other ppl who won top awards intel. Their parents were researchers and were basically like “Hey, you want to plug in this project? I let you submit it in the fair”. Some are original though. One really famous one was this girl who tested whether iPods affect pacemakers. The results were published in medical journals everywhere. That won first place, I think.
