Residency reclassification at UF; do they ever do it? We will be a legit case for it

My daughter wants to go to UF. Our entire family plans to move to Florida immediately after my twins graduate high school. My son wants to work at Disney, my mother wants to retire there, and I just want to be someplace warm. So we are not moving for the purposes of going to school in Florida rather we started looking at schools in Florida because we know we are moving there. However she is not crazy about taking a year off. My thought is if she gets excepted into UF, that she could pay out-of-state tuition for the first year, and then get reclassified for the second year. I see that as an option and we truly will be Florida residents at that point but I’m not sure how often they reclassify. I would not want her to have to end up taking a year off in the middle to establish her residency (if hats even possible!) curious if anyone has had this situation.

*accepted not excepted

I would call the school and ask. When we were going through this scenario at Texas, we found the staff to be very helpful. Of course, it would be great if someone could share here, too! Good luck!

This comes up alot. UF has a webpage dedicated to the subject.

Here is the state law:

And the residency form:

Thank you for those links… I actually have read all of that information previously. But it is still a bit unclear. I still cannot figure out if they would re-classify for sophomore year, if she was already enrolled as a freshman. I was curious if anyone had any actual experience. If she did one year as out of state, and then they would not re-classify her, she would then have to take a year off in the middle to establish residency. (And not even sure if that is allowed!) I just would not be able to afford four years as an out of state resident. And given the fact that I will be selling my home in NJ and actually will be a florida resident. But i feel like they may just say too bad… because it seems like many people in the past have tried to beat the system.
