how have you guys resisted/ or gave in, to the urge to brag about getting into one of the best universities in VA/USA/Earth/Solar System?

I really am not the type to boast but, this is an accomplishment and I feel people in my school need to know =P. Besides a lot of juniors and some seniors at my school need to be put in their places =p.

What are you guys’ feelings?

This question is specific to other 2015 acceptees.

I know some schools have a college day so seniors can show off a shirt or piece of clothing from their chosen school. I think it’s a nice way for everyone in the class to celebrate the end of the college search as a group.

I know I’m not 2015, but I found out I got into UVA the night before the senior trip to Florida and my birthday (which is today!). I was sitting next to a girl from my German class on the plane, and when she asked if I knew where I was going to college yet, I told her I got into UVA and would be going there. I then took a nap. By the time I woke up, the entire plane knew I had gotten into UVA. I am OOS so it was a super huge deal. Everyone knew I had wanted to go to UVA since, like, 2nd grade, so that helped, too. But people just came up and congratulated me that whole day. So I got to bask in the glory without bragging per se. ;)

In my high school, all seniors that are attending college or the army, navy, marines, etc have a giant thing on top of their caps. So like, I am attending UVA, so maybe I have the V with swords symbol on top of my gown. It’s 3D, of course. People make Styrofoam cut-outs and print out mascots and stuff to put on the cap. It’s just a really unique way of displaying student accomplishments without parents having to ask every student where they are going. I think its a very clever thing! =]

By cap, I mean the traditional cap and gown. We have a school event during 8th period for seniors where we wear cap and gown. And of course, graduation.

Oh, gosh. I’d like to think that I’m not -bragging-, but I certainly can’t stop talking about it! For example…

Friend in band class: Huh, someone left and orange highlighter in my cubby.
Me: Omg! Orange! That’s a UVa color!

Friend in Stats class: Ugh, I need to drop this book off at the library today.
Me: I can’t wait to go visit UVa’s library. Did you know that one is open 24 hours?

Friend at lunch: I can’t wait to leave for the band trip!
Me: Me too! We’re leaving on my birthday!
Friend at lunch: Really? No way?!
Me: You know the cool thing about my birthday? It’s also Thomas Jefferson’s birthday! You know the cool thing about that is. . . -goes into rant-

Wofbharatj…Our D’s prep school also has a tradition of students decorating their mortar boards with their college’s insignia/logo. Kids go all out with rhinestones, glitter paper, fringe, etc. It makes for an interesting and fun graduation.

bigshot judging by your name, you should have no problem with bragging! Hahaha I’m just kidding :)

But I completely understand where you’re coming from! I found out a few days ago and I’ve had the urge to tell the entire world! However, I’ve controlled myself…so far >:)

My plan is to tell a few people until EVERYBODY knows! Hahaha that way I at least appear to be somewhat modest when people find out! :P

My parents told more people than I did haha. I’m not really a fan of bragging, but I put it as my facebook status and it spread like wildfire. Other than that, I don’t really mention it haha. In my mind though, I am a champion. =]

Bio teacher: What are your top choices?
Me: UVA and NYU.
Bio teacher: Those are very good schools. (To my friend) What are yours?
Friend: I’m not sure, but it goes, Georgetown and Princeton, Chicago, and then UVA.
Me: **** you.

lol all good answers and made me chuckle =]

Dean J trust me, I personally have 5 UVA shirts and 1 UVA pair of shorts, but I’ve started wearing my dad’s Darden shirts and sweats etc. until I visit the school again and purchase one of everything =].

Ya its a big deal for anyone in my highschoool that got into a top college, I go to an OOS public school and only a handful of us are moving on to top universities.

People at my school don’t realize that UVa is anything more than a public school. They wonder why I didn’t just apply to my state school so that I could get in-state tuition.

I don’t really care, though, as I’m used to not getting any recognition - nor do I need it. At my school, you are either going to the state flagship, going to community college, or going to some other school instead of that state flagship “where you should be going.” Nobody ever really goes for top schools, outside of the top 25 kids or so. (And only a handful of those 25 have much success.)

I’ve noticed a trend with Harvard students. They want everyone to know they go to Harvard, but it is considered gauche to walk around everywhere you go in a Harvard sweatshirt.

So they get people to ask them where they go to college. In false modesty, they say “near Boston”. Then people again ask where. They say “In Cambridge”. Then the person is supposed to say “Oh, HARVARD!”

My d is one of the 2 students who got accepted into UVA from her school. We are OSS. There were about 25 kids in her class that did not get in. UVA has been her top choice. She normally wears some UVA gear once/week. This week I noticed that she had not wear UVA stuff so I asked her if there is one week to wear UVA, this is it, why haven’t you worn any UVA gear to school? Her response: I don’t want to make other kids feel bad!!! That’s, my friends, my UVA girl!!!

Can’t really brag when everyone else is going to great schools. In just my Psych class, people that sit near me are going to Duke, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, McGill, Middlebury, Berkeley, Cornell, Rice, William & Mary, Boston College, and Notre Dame.

^^ Yeah a lot of people at my school also got into some really good schools (Cornell, Duke, Princeton, etc.). I’m extremely proud of them, too! We all pretty much found out at the same time so my entire senior class is pretty excited right now!

But you’re right, it’s hard to brag when you go to a school that excels in academics because a lot of people manage to get into great schools!

I’m VERY proud of getting into UVA, regardless!
