Retirement and Relationships

We would all be lucky to have a great cheerleader!!

Maybe sometimes you can sit on the beach while he surfs. He can walk with you once a week just for the company.

We walk together, it’s just not a sport, know what I mean? I’ll watch him surf a little, but it’s pretty boring watching. I’m a great cheerleader watching him finish marathons, videoing, yelling, taking pictures!

That can be a tough balance. Ime, when one partner is particularly active, it can help if the other isn’t because they have the flexibily to go to the crazy, out of the way events and be the support staff and cheering squad. If you’re both off to something different every weekend, that s hard on a relationship.

Otoh, if you both do the same thing, you share it but you can also become competitive. Maybe less so at this point in life, but I have a friend whose marriage nearly came apart when she started reaching thexelite levels in a sport her DH had introduced her to and offered training.

Oh, trade-offs!
